Satoru Iwata has done some major restructuring of Nintendo internal Japan offices.

Nintendo Integrated Research & Development
General Manager: Genyo Takeda
-- Development Division (Hideo Nagata) <----------- NEW????
-- Technology & Research Division (Shozo Funakoshi)

Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development
General Manager: Shigeru Miyamoto
--Entertainment Analysis & Development [Kyoto] (Takashi Tezuka)
--Entertainment Analysis & Development [Tokyo] (Takashi Tezuka) <--------NEW??

Nintendo Technology & Development
General Manager: Nobuo Nagai
--Research & Engineering (Satoru Okada)
--Research & Development (Unknown) <------------- NEW ??

Nintendo Software Planning Division
General Manager: Akira Ootani
-- Project Development (Unknown) <---------- NEW??
-- Software Quality Control (Kenji Miki)

R&D1 gone?? Well looks like some weird mergers went on. The former head of R&D1 Takehiro Izushi was assigned to head up the Product Organization group. Where is Metroid director Yoshio Sakamoto and Wario Ware creator Hirofumi Matsuoka now??

Nintendo R&D1, Nintendo R&D2, Nintendo Special-Planning & Development seem no longer. New name or complete teams broken up.

Nintendo's run out of game properties to repackage for increased profits. Now they're just folding inward. :p

Well no one got fired. More games I hope. I just dont want all of Nintendo to become EAD. R&D1 needs to remain its own entity. I am guessing right now that one of those 3 divisions other than EAD, have a game development group as well which is where R&D1 and R&D2 are hopefully.

six billion dollars.
How come they ALWAYS have 6 billion dollars? Five years ago they had 6 billion dollars, and they've made a crap load of money since then, yet they still only have 6 billion dollars? Someone explain this to me.

I dunno how much they actually have now, but a company can have retained earnings which reminan in the bank until they spend it. So it is possible that Nintendo has used all of the profit they've made in the past few years for dividend payments and reinvestment back into the company, therefore causing their retained earnings to remain roughly the same.

Does that get counted as an expenditure for whenever they do statements?

The income statement would show the dividend payments and some other things, but the cash flow statement is where you'd really see where all of the money went.

Actually I would like to correct my self again. Using the 2005 statements, Nintendo has $7.46 billion in US dollars (This is based on the exchange rate of 0.009533 from finance.yahoo.com)

7.46 BILLION, that's the new # folks

Hideo Nagata? I can only find two credits for him, one is Mario Paint, and the other is Teleroboxer (a Virtual Boy game).

I think he's a tech guy rather than a game maker. As his title was "Hardware-Software-Peripheral Design" on Mario Paint and he was part of the "Virtual Boy Staff" on Teleroboxer, I'm not sure we can say that that Development Division is for games.

These are internal teams at Nintendo, not second parties. What's the big deal?

It's Nintendo--any unanticipated move must be interpeted as a move towards their doom on GAF.

Or their inevitable rise to dominance once again, but it's mostly the DOOMED school of thinking.

So R&D1 + R&D2 = Nintendo Integrated Research & Development?

Nintendo IR&D.
I like it.
No, IRD was in place before the restructuring. They used to be R&D3, behind games such as Play Action Football and Punch-Out. Since becoming IRD they focused more on hardware though, like the 64DD and GC modem/BBA.

If I had to guess, I'm betting R&D2 was absorbed into EAD (since a lot of former EAD staff were there anyway, plus they collaberated on Zelda FSA recently) to form EAD's handheld division. No idea about R&D1 though, maybe they're the new software side of NTD? I can't imagine them joinging EAD. :/

R&D1 has a different spirit from EAD.

Wasn't that group (in some form) responsible for kid icarus and metroid? IMO, those games were, in a few ways, ahead of miyamoto's contemporary efforts. It would be nice if their individual brand of creativity were encouraged rather than stifled by merging with EAD. It really doesn't seem as if they have access to the same kind of resources as EAD.

Maybe they're trying to give EAD a bigger pool of talent to draw from in the wake of lackluster updates to their big franchises (Mario Sunshine, Zelda WW, Mario Kart: DD).

Just throwing out speculation.

Probably. I think this nothing more than some gearing up for the next genertaion. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about who is making what yet, though--I'm expecting R&D1 guys to start making Mario games for instance.
