Nintendo won't likely change their prices this year, but after the initial "early adopters" have purchased the new consoles and games, I could see Nintendo dropping prices. It all depends on how well Switch 2 sells. The early shipments will quickly sell purely on built-up excitement for a new Nintendo system. How this translates to the December holiday season, when parents will be more crucial, remains to be seen.
We must also factor in the state of the US economy, which is now expected to fall into recession by summer. Perhaps this tariff madness will end, perhaps it will continue, nobody yet knows. In any case, we can expect Nintendo to respond accordingly, and they have no doubt factored this into their pricing and profit margins already. They know how this business works, they've been doing it for decades.
The goal for the videogame business has always been to sell a games system at the "mass market price." Right now, Nintendo is testing the waters to see just where that price lies.
Personally, if you're rooting for lower prices on hardware and software, my advice would be to wait a little while. Switch 2 will be around for the next 5-8 years, it's not going anywhere. The world won't end if you're not playing Mario Kart World on launch week. I know that I still have a zillion Switch 1 games to catch up on, so I'll just focus on that for now. I know my daughter (almost 5) really likes the new Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Party and especially Animal Crossing (which I still don't have, zoiks).
