According to Kit & Krysta ex Nintendo employees, theres a strong possibility that Nintendo is already preparing an answer to revert backlash in the game increase prices plan. Did you think that Nintendo is going to backtrack price increase?

lol they never will. They dont care. People will be mad until after release and everyone will forget it just like we all did when sony increased the price

Preorder prices are already 60€ and 70€, so that's 20/30 less than the 90€ they announced. They don't have to do anything.

Let's hope they're right. Can't see it myself, but would be good if they did. Parents (and probably most other people) won't want to be forking out £74.99 for games, it's just fucking stupid.

If they don't backtrack then fine, but I'll be buying maybe 1 or 2 games a year max. That'll be preowned too.

I know the new Nintendo Treehouse people are useless and unwatchable, but these two were hardly in-the-know, or known for their good takes when they were.

Wouldn't this be a Nintendo of Japan decision? These two worked at Nintendo of America IIRC, but NOA's been a puppet for NOJ since the Reggie era.

And like some others are already saying, no they likely won't reverse on game prices. Although they probably should at least do so with the digital releases (and by proxy, the Game Key ones since those are just DRM keys to download digital versions).

fired nintendos noa treehouse emploryeess pretending to know anything bouts nintendos jarpan ahah

Well a bit harsh take there but generally agreed on they'd know little about top-level NOJ decisions.

they knows nothing clirkbait for there crud chanel

No I don't think so, well, unless it actually starts to dent their business. But that'll happen 6+ months post launch in that case.

They have to have a 3DS launch disaster for that to happen and that ain't happening. Even then I don't know if that would impact the price of the games themselves.

Despite the massive flood of complaints they'll sell well enough though imo. I'd love for people to prove me wrong so Nintendo course corrects.

Is the pricing even official in the US? I'm pero sure NoA hasn't show official numbers.

Anyway, they deserve it, not because of prices themselves but for leaving the subject completely unanswered for so many days, WTH were they thinking? It's such a dumb think to do they can only blame themselves.

They won't change anything even when it starts to affect their sales (it will). It's a hill they're willing to die on.

Will people backtrack the massive pre-order numbers?
Preorders are early adopters, they will pay anything, after the front loaded sales is that you'll see the reality of the market, the mass market they pursue.

And mind you in not complaining about the prices and will pay anyway, will just buy less from them out at full price.

No, if anything they will increase the global price due to "tariffs" and even if the tariffs get lifted the price increase will stay. This is Nintendo lol. They are charging for the demo game. Just like they did with 1-2 switch last gen.

They'll only backtrack if their internal data says they'd make more revenue if they do so (i.e., the increased unit price didn't offset the number of sales lost due to the price hike), but my gut says people will slurp these games up.

They're not lowering prices. 6 months after release people will be used to paying this price for it, and a year later, other games will follow and it'll be the new normal.

I know this because it's happened before, and it will happen again.

They know there's plenty of people who will pay what ever Nintendo charges because people always have done and Nintendo have always made profits. Look at the prices for Switch 1 games, they still charge ridiculous prices for 5+ year old games because they know people don't have a choice & will take the hit.

If this was Sony or Microsoft, maybe. Nintendo, hell no. They double down when given negative feedback. Sometimes it works, sometimes they fail hard.

They won't change course until they absolutely have to (3DS), or maybe not even then (Wii U which never got a price drop).

Pre-orders haven't gone live yet. Which means they have no data to tell them they need to change course. Negative comments on the Internet literally mean nothing to them.

They won't backtrack on Mario Karts's pricing. But they'll probably walk back on Welcome Tour being a paid release. Really the problem is that Nintendo needs to come clean and actually give us answers. Somebody needs to really grill them on this during their shareholders meeting next month. Surely they know they backlash they're getting online ATM. They need to say something about this.

This is also complete nonsense. Reggie actually pushed NCL to include Wii Sports for free in the US, to which they eventually agreed after initially declining. The people who say "NOA doesn't do anything" have no idea what they're talking about.

Someone has to afford their games in order to stay afloat after all, they can't make all of them a luxury

they would only drop the price now if tariff related and tariffs go down. And realize they made TotK $70 last gen.

I see a lot of people complain about the prices. But in recent years, we learned there's a lot of vocal people but they don't overlap with the people actually spending money.
So I'm waiting to see more but it looks like it might be doing good with this prices.

Agree with you, but i think it's going to be some kind of response from Nintendo. Maybe matching the prices of the competition.

Lmfao sure.

Nintendo won't likely change their prices this year, but after the initial "early adopters" have purchased the new consoles and games, I could see Nintendo dropping prices. It all depends on how well Switch 2 sells. The early shipments will quickly sell purely on built-up excitement for a new Nintendo system. How this translates to the December holiday season, when parents will be more crucial, remains to be seen.

We must also factor in the state of the US economy, which is now expected to fall into recession by summer. Perhaps this tariff madness will end, perhaps it will continue, nobody yet knows. In any case, we can expect Nintendo to respond accordingly, and they have no doubt factored this into their pricing and profit margins already. They know how this business works, they've been doing it for decades.

The goal for the videogame business has always been to sell a games system at the "mass market price." Right now, Nintendo is testing the waters to see just where that price lies.

Personally, if you're rooting for lower prices on hardware and software, my advice would be to wait a little while. Switch 2 will be around for the next 5-8 years, it's not going anywhere. The world won't end if you're not playing Mario Kart World on launch week. I know that I still have a zillion Switch 1 games to catch up on, so I'll just focus on that for now. I know my daughter (almost 5) really likes the new Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Party and especially Animal Crossing (which I still don't have, zoiks).
