TOKYO, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Japan's Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) on Thursday reported that they were "unsatisfied" with the current redesign of the Nintendo DS.
Spokesperon Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, came out to an enthusiastic crowd fresh off the unveiling of the Nintendo DS Lite.
"We have shown you our redesign, but we are not satisfied," said Iwata, "we will not actually release the Nintendo DS Lite, as it does not reach our expectations. We reinvented the wheel with the Game Boy Advance SP, so why not do the same with our Nintendo DS line? As of now, consider the Nintendo DS Lite repealed."
The room, full of reporters, took a boggled tone. Nothing else was said for the entire meeting.
Nintendo, known for games featuring characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokemon, has enjoyed a solid holiday season, particularly in Japan, due to strong demand for its DS portable game machine and games such as "Nintendogs", "Animal Crossing DS" and "Mario Kart DS."
