I don't think handhelds have quite developed the traditional release schedules yet. PSP has like 800 games coming out in March, and DS ones hardly have release dates at all.

The DS is slacking.
I will purchase Yoshi.
I MIGHT purchase Rayman.

PSP is going to dominate if the lineup stays this way.

Was the purpose of this thread to depress us DSers into getting PSPs? Aside from the games TBA (many of which we've heard little about), there's not much here that i'd buy.

Of those with a date, I'll buy:

March
01 -- Bomberman DS (Ubisoft)
08 -- TETRIS DS (THQ) (unless it obviously sucks...)
14 -- Yoshi's Touch & Go (Nintendo)
14 -- Pokemon Dash (Nintendo)
15 -- Rayman DS (Ubisoft)

May
07 -- VIEWTIFUL JOE DS (Capcom)
08 -- Metroid Prime: Hunters DS (Nintendo)

Aug
30 -- CASTLEVANIA DS (Konami)

That list is so incredibly barren of good games anytime soon. I wonder how Viewtiful will be. Is it exclusive, or is there a PSP version announced?

Then again, since I am getting the PSP in March, I might not get...

08 -- TETRIS DS (THQ)
15 -- Rayman DS (Ubisoft)

But since I can't really think of more than 2-3 PSP games I want, this is something of a non-issue.

You would get Pokemon Dash over those two?!? You're insane.

Well, I have Tetris for GBA & have already played through Rayman 2 on Dreamcast, so I'd be rebuying games that I've already played. It's pretty obvious that this Tetris won't be Wi-Fi enabled too, so that limits the usefulness of a new version.

Also, I preordered Pokemon Dash when it was $24 shipped on Outpost, so I am pretty much locked into that already.

Is it supposed to be THAT bad?

Feb
17 -- Tiger Woods PGA Tour (EA)
24 -- Another Code: 2 Memories (Nintendo)

March
03 -- Meteos (Bandai)
03 -- Pac-Pix (Namco)
17 -- Harvest Moon: Korobokkuru Station (Marvellous)
24 -- Egg Monster Hero (Square Enix)
24 -- Gamen genei satsujin jiken: The Masquerade Lullaby (Genki)
24 -- Touch! Kirby: Mahou no Efude (Nintendo)
31 -- Yakuman DS (Nintendo)

They need some THQ games, then the DS will officially be GBA part 2.

If the PSP takes off, you can bet that list will shrink even further.

Nintendo depresses me to no end.

The handheld market always been kinda slow on games, I really don't know if Sony's "oversaturate" philosophy for consoles will work here and on PS2 at the same time. Portable games are games I've never really felt an intense need to buy right away, perhaps with the exception of a Castlevania or some type of strategy title.

Even as big a Zelda fan as I am, I feel no rush to get Minish Cap since I play most of my handheld games slower than my console games. I sure as hell will never buy handheld games at the rate I would console games.

Quick corrections...

22 -- Robots (Griptonite)
The publisher would be VU actually.

18 -- FROGGER DS (Konami)
The final title is Frogger: Helmet Havoc

May
02 -- Ultimate Brain Games (Telegames)
02 -- Ultimate Card Games (Telegames)
02 -- Ultimate Pocket Games (Telegames)
Ultimate Pocket Games is actually a GBA release, not DS.

I'm sure Capcom will annonce a PSP version in late-March to early-April, you know, right before the DS version is released.

Viewtiful Joe PSP was already announced... the smart money is on both the DS and PSP versions being entiurely different though. I personally wouldn't mind if the PSP game was VJ1+2 on a single UMD though. :)

Well, crap on me! I really need to keep better track of handheld games. :|

Now that would be pretty cool.

Metroid Prime is the closest game in the pipeline that I care about. Then Castlevania. Kinda sad that those are the only games I care about for DS, but I'm sure that'll change. Its a good thing its GBA compatible or it woulda sunk real fast. I will play Final Fight, Advance Wars, Aria of Sorrow, etc. until Metroid finally hits. That's gonna be awesome when it does. :D

To be honest, a very lame line-up. The consoles this year own PSP's and NDS's line-ups in a minute.

No doubt. I hope Sony and Nintendo really start stepping up to the plate with their own offerings because 3rd parties are--for the most part--not getting it done.

Out of all the box art you posted, I see 2 games I want. 2 out of 6 boxes is not a good thing... Lets hope these games start coming out with some substance, and not just glorified tech demos on what we could do with a touch screen. :) I mean come on Nintendo, my DS has a lot of dust on it. :D

I'd say, 1st party DS and PSP lineups are already pretty amazing. I'd agree though, 3rd parties need to start bringing their A game. Even traditionally strong GBA partners like Konami, Bandai and Capcom seem to be dragging their feet. :/

It would be really awesome, and a great additional gameplay element, if in the Atari Retro compilation, you could play Missile Command with the touch screen and detonate incoming missiles by touching the screen with the stylus.

Is it sad there's not a single DS title I want until Castlevania?

It was wise for me to wait on purchasing it.

I'm content with my SP with it's 2d rpg, castlevania and strategy game goodness

In other news, Gamestop and EBGames aren't aware of half the games coming to these new handhelds.

Yeah, of course there are going to be tons more than pop up after E3 2005.

I don't know if it was a joke or not but here you go:

...while Missile Command used touch play to shoot rockets either on the bottom or up high on the top screen with the use of the trigger to move the cursor (you still moved your aim on the bottom touch in this mode, so it was still just as fast and accurate to play)
