it seems the patent is about a 3D display on a small device?
when you can click
button_detail_hyouji.gif
icon in the link above,
there are 11 concept pics on the right hand side
and a detail description on the left hand side
but I cannot fully understand what it means

Awesome a PATENT THREAD

these things never come to shit.

I wanted to bring this technology up but I wasn't sure if anyone had heard of it. Apparently I think it was Time magazine that someone told me had an article about Steven Spielberg who wanted to patent some type of new state of the art 3D projection technology but found out the patent was already taken by a major game company who remained nameless (Obviously Nintendo). It described the technology as being able to project 3D images into 3D space in a very practical manor. Did anyone else see this article?

Still opens briefly then errors.

I don't know why
I go to here http://www2.ipdl.ncipi.go.jp/begin/be_search.cgi?STYLE=login&sTime=1089943287207
then I enter this keyword " 立体的な表示が可能なゲーム装置 ",
click "「一覧表示」", I get the result out

1. 特許公開2006-020691 ゲーム装置

There was another game that came after trouble it played very similar except that the pieces were cone shaped and as part of the gameplay you could stack them on each other... but I ran't for the life of me remember what it was called...

EDIT:

Some badly translated stuff:

< Theme > The game equipment position whose three-dimensional indication is possible regarding the small-sized device is offered. < Solution expedient > This invention, is the display and the optical component and the game device which has with ????? Lu and game processing expedient. The display indicates the game picture. The optical component has the structure which designates the transparent component of fibrous as the bundle, the aspect of one side of the input/output aspect which is formed by the both ends of the particular transparent component is plane surface and also it is the form where the other aspect is the curved surface of abbreviation spherical condition, in order for particular plane surface to touch to the display surface of the display ?, is arranged. The touch panel covers the curved surface part of the optical component. Game processing expedient does the game processing which changes the Gaea ? picture according to the input to the touch panel. < Selective figure > Figure 1

It sounds like a touch-sensitive curved display :S

touchscreen trakball!

Yep. I reckon your right. Although why you'd pattern a device that allow the users hand to cover most of the screen is another question.

so many people reference that and i have never ever seen a picture.
There's picture of just Fox McCloud (no background etc) in a 3D display. The display is cylander shaped, but I think it may have had a dome shaped top. There was a Nintendo rep standing next to the display IIRC.

Edit: Here's a small picture. I'll try to find a bigger one

It was from E3 a couple of years ago. It's some kind of display Nintendo was working on quite a while ago. Around that time there were rumors that Nintendo had a 3D display they were going to release for GC. Try doing a GAF search for "Holograms" and "Gahagiddy" and it might come up. This is from quite awhile ago though and I think everything was moved onto new servers. I'm not sure if they forums were archived.
