Haven't seen this posted anywhere here, and I searched for PALM in the search field which brought nothing relevant... so...

RUMOR #4: Nintendo is planning to create organizer software for the Nintendo DS using the Palm OS.

Source: The self-explanatory Gamercentric.com.

The official story: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation."--Nintendo of America representative.

What we heard: On Tuesday, word began to circulate that when Nintendo shows off its "V-Pocket" DS organizer software at E3 in May, it will actually be unveiling a version of the Palm OS for its dual-screen handheld. The news came from the GamerCentric article, which claimed "Nintendo had recently licensed Palm-OS-based PDA software." However, the frugal gadget gropers over at Bargainpda.com noted that "PalmSource has not announced Nintendo as a licensee, nor are they listed on the PalmSource licensee web page." Then, later in the week, Bargainpda.com claimed to have talked with "contacts at PalmSource and all deny that Nintendo is a licensee of the Palm Operating System. It's not clear if the report from GamerCentric is a complete fabrication or Nintendo is in the process of becoming a licensee but not there yet." Who is right? Given the preponderance of evidence, Bargainpda.com's argument is more convincing. Besides, why pay Palm royalties for a licensed OS when Nintendo could just create its own?

SPOnG learned from official Nintendo sources yesterday that the V-Pocket trademark concerns Nintendo’s licensing of the Palm OS based PDA software.

Nintendo will soon unveil a complete suit of personal organiser tools for its Nintendo DS platform, expected to be shown before E3. Nintendo believes that the functionality of the DS, combined with high-end PDA software, will give it an edge over Sony’s PSP, which is, and will remain a media-driven value-added console.

It’s worth noting that the logo offered for V-Pocket reflects the aesthetic employed in Nintendo’s DS branding.

I will say this:

I am a little tired of everyone taking GS's Rumor Control column as gospel all the time. I KNOW of at least two things they have stamped as "bogus" in the last couple of months alone, that are actually true... Usually their reasoning is logical and Tor always seems like a top guy and a writer that I admire but ffs, he is not God and not 100% right 100% of the time. What we need is a "GameSpot Rumor Control CONTROL".... :D

Edit: I'll also add that at the risk of sounding like a pussy this is not intended to bash GS RC or Tor but the people who react to what it says in this kinda way... I don't think it is in the spirit of why the column exists in the first place.
 
I take Gamespot's rumor controls as rumors themselves. It's just their commentary whenever they don't have an official comment

Also, GAF got mentioned twice in this week's rumors. Back off Gamespot!

Well, you always defend Spong because you're best buds with some of them. But true, GS is wrong sometimes. But they do kind of have a point... licensing Palm OS for the DS when they could easily make their own?

Well, Gamestop's rumor control is just a collection of rumors that have already been discussed at gaf and/or other forums (yes, I know, hence the section title) and the guy writing the section either goes with the "bogus" comment (because the rumor is completely ridiculous and doesn't make sense at all,) the "this might happen later" which doesn't really say anything at all, or some other uncompromising stance accompanied by the corresponding companies' PR line "X doesn't comment on rumors or speculations."

In short, it adds nothing other than what we know or can deduct easily. Then again, the purpose is probably to report rumors. It's funny the rumors are most of the times reported after they show up at GAF or other forums.

But I am not defending Spong on this occasion since I am not familiar with this story and haven't really discussed sources etc with anyone. It's really just a comment about GS RC in general. But I would also suggest that you should not be so quick to knock some Spong sources anyway.
 
Folder from Spong is still banned from GA I think. Which kind of makes the Spong-hate threads boring since there is nobody coming in to say, "Wait no, Spong is really a great gaming news site now!"

Haha, didn't notice Google picked it up...(the old location anyway). Using that SA news psd was a great way to jumpstart a GAF photoshop contest. The results were right up there with the RE4 disparagement thread (which itself was like a year before the game came out anyway...)

I want to say bring on more photoshop contest threads, but alas I'm short on ideas right now. The music guessing threads were fun, too.

All I will say for the topic is that periodically Nintendo has licensed various bits of software or hardware, but many times that just boils down to fulfilling previous business obligations - sort of like making deals with internet providers just to provide a show of readyness even though the BBA would never see that kind of use. As Sony found out, Nintendo refuses to be cornered with this sort of thing.

Of course, looking at past intelligent systems dev kits, I certainly wish they *would* license something useful.

GS' reasoning sems to be that as they cannot get comment on undisclosed information, it must therefore be bogus. Whatever...
 
In all fairness they denied that they licensed the operating system and not the programs or other trademarks/interfaces.

BTW folder, what's with the lack of the oatbath?

I meant join him doing hard time, not trolling.

GameSpot says it is a bogus rumour. You say it is a lie, which defines it as a deliberate falsehood created by Spong with the intention of deceiving. If that's the way you want to see it, fine, but if you're going to make potentially libelous allegations, you can stick with them.

Still, if you're sufficiently certain to go accusing people of lying, then you don't have anything to worry about, do you?

Folder did seem to lie about XBOX RE4. When does the time frame for that out of Capcom's rep's mouth fact become a lie and he gets permabanned? He did promise we'd hear soon.. its been like 1-2 months?

There is a full explanation of events over two threads.
Just read them.

Essentially:

I was told by a high-ranking staffer from one of the platform holders.
I was shown documentation from Capcom which explicitly mentioned an Xbox version several times though I was not able to retail a copy, perhaps for obvious reasons.
It's a simple as that. If I weren't to run a piece backed by that I'd be remiss.

You may notice that Capcom has never denied its existence. If it weren't bad form, I'd post the email 'feedback' on the piece I received from staff there.

I have full confidence that it'll be shown. The timeframe in which it would be shown was my assumptive error at time of press.

xsarien, you can either believe me or not but I'm not going to sit here banging on, tediously flogging a lie, as much as I'm not going to go over this again.

I'd say that the game should be shown at E3. If not then it looks a little shaky. The information above is a 100% accurate run of events. If the game's not shown or doesn't come out, something has changed. If that happens, I'll endeavour to post something here to corroborate the initial report.

I don't see Capcom having RE4 for Xbox at E3 if its gonna be Xenon/360 central at the MS booth... I don't doubt you may have heard rumblings of it earlier though. Unless you meant Xenon/360 of course. I too, haven't really followed the topics.

I don't see why Capcom would even bother porting RE4 to Xbox. It's dead in JPN, so there's hardly any sales to be had there.

By the time it comes out in America, the PS2 version would/will be out, and that will destroy XBX in terms of sales of RE4.

Of course, there's always the moneyhats.

Yes. Unless someone at NCL has been eating magic mushrooms. I called and asked what it was. I was told it was some Palm organiser stuff which TBH, meant nothing to me.
