My son dropped my DS the other day. He dropped it out of my van on to the pavement. It was opened when he dropped it and broke one side of the hinge. It still worked fine but the screen was kinda floppy. Well I pop into Nintendo today to see how much to get it fixed. Well for $40 CDN they gave me a brand new DS. I'm stoked, I got mine on launch day and I have kids so the thing was pretty beat up screen was scratched. I'ld paid 40 bucks just to have the hinge fixed now I have a nice shiny scrath free DS. And for added bonus no please wait 4-6 weeks BS, whole thing took 5 minutes.

Nintendo+1 :)

So you traveled all the way to Seattle to get your DS replaced? Sounds like all your savings spent on gas money. ;)

If it were still in warranty, they would have given you a new one for free. Nintendo's customer service is brilliant. They go out of their way to help you and make sure you get the service that you need. Best customer service in the business, by far.

Was it passed the warranty?

Cos here in the UK, a friend of mines DS had an issue with his screen and after contacting Nintendo they sent him out a new one and took away his old one, all within a week and free delivery.

Nintendo Office in Canada is like 2 mintues from my work. When I said the whole deal took five minutes that includes travel time to get there.

I don't think waranty would cover my four year old basically throwing it out of my mini van. He went to jump out with it in his hand and literaly hucked it against the concrete.

$40CDN? wow.. cost me $50USD.. and to top it off they ONLY replaced the top screen. I got the same unit back, same nicks, same serial. not that it was a problem, just find it funny.

but yeah, they rock. $57.50 (including shipping) and I was without the DS for less than 10 days.

this is a good point. mechanical defects are fixed free in warranty. I should have specified that my issue was a busted LCD screen. a defect is free inside warranty. user damage inside of warranty is $50. any repair outside of warranty is $75.

It was suppose to 65 CDN for a new unit. He asked how long I had it andwhen I said launch day, he said I can knock 25 off for loyalty.

... yeah, imagine if Sony offered the same service for all their defective units.

I disagree. I'm currently pissed at their customer service because my warranty was literally four days expired, and they wouldn't give me the benefit of the doubt. They tossed prices at me for repairs that were rediculous; more than half the cost of a new unit to have mine fixed.

Gamecube warranty- 3 years
Xbox warranty- 6 months
PS2 warranty- after your 3rd one breaks, a smaller version will be available so u wont even
want a replacement.

Were are you from? This really surprises me, cause they really seemed to have a make people happy first and worry about cost second policy. When I went in there was a guy in front of me in line looking for a GBA battery and they gave it to him for nothing. Also I went in when the GBA first came out and they gave me a headphone adapter for nothing as well.

No, no, man, you've got it all backwards. Nintendo's job is the hardest, because kids break more stuff than adults do. :lol

this is really beyond their control. here's the thing. TECHNICALLY, you are supposed to register your unit to receieve warranty on it any way (or have proof of purchase). This means you have a serial number tied to a service agreement essentially. I wouldn't be surprised if warranty information was in their system tied directly to your serial number (especially when IIRC you can extend warranties through nintendo).

so, four days out is four days out. also, what kind of service? was it defective service or user damage? if it was four days out and defective I find it hard to believe that they weren't cutting you some sort of breaks (even if not free). If it was four days out and user damage, I am not surprised they weren't giving you any breaks. Even the best customer service in the world has little to no tolerance for user damage.

No its easy to provide such great service when your hardware isn't defective prone pieces of crap. What are there 60 Million GBA's out there and 10+ Million DS's? You gotta give Nintendo credit where they deserve it. Their hardware quality and customer service kills Sony's and Microsofts and it could just as easily of been just as shitty.
