Nintendo UK: "We have no plans to launch [WII Mini] in the UK"

Is it true that GC support was dropped on a revised model of the Wii not too long ago?

It is, thus making expectations about Gamecube support on the Wii mini very strange, unless coming from uninformed gaffers.

Personally I can't believe they have created a model for Canada. This has to be planned at least for NA, maybe they need to clear stock in the US before introducing the mini.

Yup, January after Christmas rush. Slick fuckers trying to cheat people like that.

All correct.

Thank god they have a little sense. Ditch the DS and the Wii. It's time to move on.

when i was at gamestop the other week (italy) the employee told a woman in front of me that they won't ever get any new stock for DSi and DSi XL.

is it like this somewhere else in europe?

Except as stalker mentioned you wouldn't be designing a new model for one country in NA region.

It's a test run for sure, I just think it's a bad idea in general.

Not that I've seen. But it really should be.

I reckon that really is the reason. I just can't imagine it would've sold anywhere near enough to make it worth it. There's no room in the market for a gimped Wii over here.

While I broadly agree, that raises the point that it implies that Nintendo think there *is* room for one in Canada, and I just don't see that.

There have to be other territories where the thing is sold though - designing, manufacturing and marketing a new version of an existing device for a single country can't be worth the effort.

It would be if maybe it were Brazil or Russia and cheap enough to sell to a nation that still counts the Master System as current gen.

But it's not. It's too expensive for that and it's Canada. This is little more than a testing of the water. Should the experiment work, they'll roll this out worldwide. Guaranteed.

It obviously wasn't made just for Canada. Who makes something just for Canada? :p

Does anyone know if the PSP Street is still confined to Europe? I'm assuming it is, but they must still be manufacturing the old model for Japan at least.

Well, no, but it was still released in Canada, which suggests that Nintendo think there's a market *there* for it. Maybe there is a WW market for it, but I just can't really see it unless perhaps we're talking about something far cheaper in a year or so.

E1000 (PSP Street) is still EU only. PSP3000s are still be made for Japan as well.

Canada is now third-world lmfao.
Seriously though, the Wii Mini would be great in an actual third-world/developing country, at a cheap enough price and with its focus no playing physical discs.

You guys are far too ready to believe PR.

They have no plans to launch the Wii Mini on the UK until the moment they launch it.

NoE - 'there will be no DS redesign'

*one day later DSLite unveiled*

If Wii Mini is a success in the test market they will expand it to other territories. If not they won't.

And Gamecube support. I'm looking at buying a Wii (again) right now, and Gamecube support is a huge selling point for me.

You should just buy a used GCN for $30. Not sure you'd even be able to find a Wii with GC support anymore.

Does someone know how Nintendo works in Europe? Is it some strict hierachy where everything is decided by Nintendo of Europe's headquarters in Germany while the other local branches like Nintendo UK just execute whatever they decided (similar to NCL making many or most of the importation decisions for NoA/NoE) or are the different branches actually working together more closely?

I'm curious, since I've always have to think of Nintendo UK's "DS redesign" incident whenever they make a statement (opposed to a statement by NoE directly).

I reckon that really is the reason. I just can't imagine it would've sold anywhere near enough to make it worth it. There's no room in the market for a gimped Wii over here.

It's the kids version of the Wii. How many children will use the network options of the Wii? Probably next to none. A cheap kids-only Wii would certainly move a few units.

But there is in Canada?

It's weird wherever they choose to release it, especially when I hear that people picked up a proper Wii for as low as $89 on Black Friday.

Anyway, Nintendo having their hands full with WiiU sounds about right.
