Budget PS2 rerelease?
indeed. it says it's for PS2 and comes out 10/21. just a fake 'the best' type thing. these are rather typical in japan as sony doesn't stop companies from creating their own lines of bestselling software. konami puts out tons of it under their fake 'konami the best' label and other publishers do too.

How come this isn't done in the US too?
dunno. SCEA? companies are free to reprint games at cheaper MSRP -- suikoden 1 and persona 1 both got that treatment on PS1, for example -- but i don't think retailers will typically reorder old games without GH packaging.

works for Gamestop (lol)
If they did it in the US, people would be complaining about their precious box covers getting ugly with 'greatest/best' of tabs on the side of the box cover

or, actually, average people wouldn't give a shit. =)

given that 'the best' editions are worth less -- sometimes significantly -- than the originals in japan, it seems believable that japanese collectors have a similar mindset to US ones.

Here's a little more information on it:
The new version will allow players to re-play the game from the beginning as often as they want, while retaining the data from the previous playthrough. This option will enable them to bring back their monster-based party members. There is also an extra stage where a last boss with an altered level will await players willing to challenge him. This hidden stage will also feature monsters, whose parameters and stats are unbelievable. Furthermore, an environment setting will be implemented allowing players to select between various sound type and volume settings.

La Pucelle: Hikari no Seijo Densetsu Nishuume Hajimemashita will be released in Japan on October 21st for 2,800 yen ($25.24 US).

I hope this implies a bilingual version, an uncensored version.
