So I just bought an Ipod and I'm looking at podcasts for when I travel. I've checked Itunes but there is too many to go through them all.

That's why I'm hoping GAF can help me with some suggestions. I already subscribed to Adam Carolla and Ricky Gervais' podcasts.

Subjects of interest: Music, television/movies, sport, technology, politics and comedy.

I listen to a lot of stuff off the TWIT.tv network. I really like Leo Laporte.

This Week in Tech
This Week in Photography
Futures in Biotech
MacBreak Weekly
MacCast (it's mostly news and tips, but i enjoy it in between)
Engadget (I subscribe, but I only get it if something is worthwhile)

http://www.filmspotting.net/ - awesome movie/cinema podcast that has high production values. Doesn't feel scripted although it is.

http://radio.seti.org/ - not really technology... more science :)

http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/ & http://www.thisamericanlife.org/ - are two of the best podcasts (and radio shows) made in modern times.

http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=5495231 - it's was OK the last time I listened to it.

Everything here pretty much.

Also this podcast is fairly entertaining. TV rarely gets discussed and its not that informative, it's essentially a few grown men acting like children for 45 minutes. I love it.

Radio Rickshaw - "Award winning talk about all kinds of stuff from theatre to movies, music, tech, drinks and more"

website (iTunes link on the right side of their page)

If you really like tech, find whatever Leo Laporte is doing now.....or that Gnome dude. I also love whatver Patrick Norton does. In other words...find the old TechTV crew...

http://kexp.org/podcasting/podcasting.asp - I just gotta recommend KEXP's Music That Matters podcast (scroll down). Great mixes. I've discovered several new (now favorite) artists when listening to this.

http://www.joefrank.com/ - he's supposed to be great according to several people. I've only listened to two samples on his homepage. I liked it. But I love ramblings and monologues coupled with crazy stories :)

http://pseudopod.org/ - You didn't ask for this but give it a try. This is basically an horror themed audio book served weekly. Great stories and readings but the audio quality is a little too low. If the reader doesn't have a radio-friendly voice it'll grate your ears. But it's still worth a shot.

I heard Kevin Smith has a podcast. Is this true, and if it is, what is it?
An hour (or more) with two baked individuals, Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier (dunno if he's ever under the influence but he sure does act like it, hehehe... he was the producer for Clerks)

They talk about their lifes, random Internet things (YouTube videos, Wiki entries, images and so on), news stories and go off on tangents almost every time. They also act out crazy scenarios.

RADIO LAB

It's like This American Life but about science and has insane audio production values.
they only do around 10 episodes a year, though :(

Those two shows are some of the best content being produced in any medium right now.

Also try PodCastle.org and EscapePod.org for fantasy and science fiction, respectively.

The Best Show On WFMU with Tom Scharpling
http://www.friendsoftom.com

You can thank me later.

;D

Bingo. Although as a fair warning it's very specific humor. If you like some of the more out there Adult Swim stuff (like Tom Goes to the Mayor, 12oz. Mouse, Tim & Eric Awesome Show), you could like this.

I find This American Life very hit or miss depending on the subject. Sometimes it's gripping, sometimes a stunning bore.

The Ricky Gervais Show should really be called The Karl Pilkington Show, as 95% of the humor comes from him. He's a complete riot, Gervais can be annoying and needs a little anger management therapy, Merchant is a good "side man."

Keith and the Girl and Nobody Likes Onions are okay comedy podcasts. Not a riot, not all that unique or creative, but usually entertaining.

Every Lost podcast I've heard except for the official one is fucking wretched.

SModcast is pretty much my favorite Kevin Smith-related thing ever. I'd take it over any of his movies. Heck, I don't even particularly like most of his movies, but that's probably like my favorite podcast after TAL and Skeptic's Guide.

Creative Screenwriting is awesome. You don't have to care about screenwriting to get something from it because it has big names and great interviews. Lots of cool stuff about the process and about the films themselves.

No Agenda - News show that tries to debunk the news.

that's a pretty shitty description of it

No Agenda is definitely my favorite non-gaming podcast. Shows you how fucked up the world really is, what we aren't being told, and it also talks about Amy Winehouse!

Stuff You Should Know - Learn something you should know once week.

Discovery's Friday News Feedbag - 3 guys sharing science-related articles of the week. It's not overly pretentious science shit, so you'll get a lot of laughs and learn something interesting.

Pretty much anything NPR on Itunes is a great listen. Radiolab and This American Life are the obvious stand outs, but It's All Politics is an informative, mildly amusing, and quick weekly listen (every Friday generally). NPR's Intelligence Squared (debates about various (mostly) relevant worldly issues) is also entertaining usually .

Smodcast is alright, but Smith just rambles incoherently too much for my tastes.

Adam Carolla's podcast has been amazing thus far. Also, for less daily fare, I've also enjoyed ExtraLife Radio, it covers technological/geek stuff every week or so, very occasionally dipping into gaming. Funny stuff though.

-edit-

Yeah the BS report is great, Bill Simmons covers so many different sports and events as a fan. The best ones are when he calls his buddy JackO to talk baseball "Joooooooohnnnnnnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyy":D
