Actually she was referencing a Joss Stone song that was a female take on "Fell In Love With A Girl".

I think it is partly because the White Stripes do not fit into the typical NPR audience. You might look into her archives on npr.org and maybe listen to some of her other interviews. You may change your mind. Of course, you may not.
