Oblivion PC system reqs announced

Every game ? What are you talking about. Only those rare shining moments like The Getaway or Fable.

But otherwise every game I atleast played has looked as good or better than their initial shots.

The difference in those shots I posted is like night at day. The top pics look like something out of Fable, that same washed out grainy look, and the bottom pics look oh shit thats next gen.

Well, regardless of what it really looks like, I guess I'm buying a 360 this month (if I can find one.) My PC isn't gonna cut it.

Athlon 64 3000+
6800 GT
1gb RAM

Whoo! In by a thread. Then again, if Oblivion is anything like Morrowind, then the "recommended" specs is more like "minimum" to get decent performance. :(

If that's the case, I hear that Steve Meister will personally buy you a new PC if your specs meet the minimum requirements but won't run the game properly.

I want a new video card Steve. Make it so.

I'm sorry, I'm really tired/semi not sober. So if I have a crappy Geforce fx 5200 128MB can I play this? (768 MB RAM 2.80GHz) [edit: albeit probably not extremely smoothly/prettily]I'm having a hard time believing that so I think I missed something.

Oblivion 360 reqs also announced:

* Xbox 360
* controller
* electricity
* television

Hmm...lets see

360? Check
Controller? Check
Electricity? Check
Television? 51" Hitachit HDTV (with 7.1 surround sound thrown in for good measure)
And Oblivion is already pre-paid. I'm good to go!

I'll post my paypal address later so that donations can be made.

Seriously though, the game scales nicely. There are a lot of video options that you can adjust to meet your PC's performance level.

Can my Computer handle it? I am stupid with stuff like this and really want to play Oblivion without buying a 360.

AMD Turion 64 Moble
787 MHz, 896 MB of RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 Series

curious what the difference will be between the 2 versions, be fun to compare the 360 and with my new pc

I too just barely meet the recommended.

Athlon XP @ 2.5Ghz with jacked fsb (rough equivalent to a P4 3.6 GHz)
1 gig dual channel PC3200 ram @ cas2-2-2-11
MSI 6800GT AGP @ 420/1150

Now I hope these reqs are accurate. As mentioned above, Morrowind's recommended should have been its minimum.

We'll see if they got it right this time around.

Community Made Mods, Models, and Enhancements

Consoles can't touch that

x360: All Graphical details on. All effects. Solid framerate, according to last reports. Bethesda created mods (the first pack will be available same day as release).

PC: Tons of mods, although it'll be a long time before anything worthwhile is around like with Morrowind (hence, why I will pick this version up in the distant future). Graphics not as nice unless you have way above recommended, which very few do.

I probably get the 360 version because, much like CoD2, I think my 6600GT will be no match for the 360.

Should be any day now. They said they wouldn't release PC requirements until it was finalized. It must be going through certification and such now.

Yeah, all major bugs and frame rates should be fixed (yeah right, but I can be optimistic, even here at GAF) and the game optimized. They say maybe within a week or two.

Hooray, I'm sure it will run a bit better on my current setup (3200+, 1gb) than Morrowind ran on p3 500mhz / riva tnt 2 32mb. I really should upgrade my 9600 pro though :(

This looks like the first game my current rig (P4 1.3ghz, 256mb rimm, Radeon 9800xt) won't be able to play (HL2 put the writing on the wall, but even that ran at medium, and I haevn't tried FEAR, but the reqs on that game look frightening as well).

The XPS M170 I plan on ordering sometime this month on the other hand, should fair better, but even with a 7800gtx and 2 gigs of ram I dunno about trying to run maxed out with full AA/AF etc...

PC version for me! (and probably the 360 version when I get around to picking up a 360 too.)

I meet the specs:

P4 3.0HT
2gig ram
6800GT OC

but I'd rather play the 360 version....never cared for the mods on PC and prefer sitting on my comfy floor cushion with 32" LCD HDTV and 5.1 setup with controller nestled in my hands

I still respect the pc version though :)

what?......you mean like:

X360 FTL!!1!!11 pCg@m3s 0wnZ11!!!1one jurz111! @sse5! 5krutz!

Close, but something that silly would just get both "sides" attention towards one common goal.

No, this requires some stealth, some finesse, if you will.

Pretty peaceful thread so far.

Filthy casual CONSOLE NEWBS can take their FLOPBOX-freeshitty for a long walk off a short peir!

And PC punk elitists are virgins until being made love to by Michael Landon in hell.

There.... is that any better? :D

What ??

Where is the Nvidia 6600GT?

:lol That's what I was wondering. Unless it is included when they say GeForce 6800 series. Can't see it not being supported considering it's better than a lot of video cards in that list.

I seem to remember another recent game not listing the 6600gt, and indeed, not being fully supported. I think it was Battlefield 2 at launch - like, some 6600gt's were getting blach screens or something.

It's a very popular and very, very capable card. I'd be really suprised if they don't support it.

Also, they said in a recent interview that the game WILL SUPPORT shader model 3.0, but only for better optimized performance and not for new effects or anything.

I have the processor and RAM, but my laptop's video card blows. Sadness. :( I could maybe run it, but it wouldnt be pretty.

Looks like I finaly have an excuse to buy that second 7800GT for SLI. I remember how beautiful of a game Morrowind was, and so I want to make sure I can play Oblivion in all its glory.

Heh, I'm going to have to remember that.. I have the same specs as The Shadow.

BF2's minimum specs are nearly the same.

Minimum Specification:
CPU: 1.7 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500
with 128 Mb of RAM

If you already have a 360 and an HDTV, I guess it makes sense to get that version (assuming you don't care about mods at all--but most people who say this haven't actually tried out many mods for Morrowind). Otherwise, upgrading your PC is a much cheaper, and better, option (hell, you can even plug in a 360 pad if you hate mouse/keyboard controls for some reason).

This is how I see it:

a) if you have anything < 6600 and 1 GB of RAM don't settle with the PC version, it won't look or play as good as the 360 version. Either upgrade or buy 360 [Core Pack], it'll cost roughly the same.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade though - get a 360 and upgrade your PC when Vista hits.

b) if your rig = 6600, 1GB of RAM etc. then go with the PC version! No sense in buying an 360. To play Oblivion you'll only have to spend $50 not a dime more.

c) if you have anything > 6600 and 1GB of RAM then I envy you. You'll end with Oblivion looking & playing better than on 360. Plus mods, texture packs, patches etc. Can't beat that.

No way. Unless you have a Geforce 7800GTX or the ATi equivalent, you will likely not be able to have all the effects and detail turned on (which are on in the 360 version), a nice resolution, AA and AF at a decent framerate. Mods are the only reason to get the PC version.

Nope, you are wrong.

6800 and not 7800 is recommended for a reason.
