Of all the systems you have owned, which one were you MOST hyped for?

For me it was the PS2, the hype was insane! I knew a guy that bought a JP console though never got to play it, was SO jealous. Whey I finally did get mine it was amazing, I only had TTT and DW2 but played it to death.

Amaziu memories.

Either the Gameboy Color (grew up during the Pokemon craze) or my first PC.

the Xbox 360 probably.
a new Perfect Dark on launch, and it was the only next gen console for a year, which made it feel more special.

of course Perfect Dark Zero turned out to be very mediocre, but the visuals Rare slapped onto screens with their engine for PDZ and Kameo were insane at the time.

N64

There was a Japanese import store near me and I saw Super Smash Bros. in person before anyone else had ever even heard about it.

I kept telling my friends about this game where Pikachu and Mario were fighting Samus and "some kid with a baseball bat," but nobody believed me! I felt like I had seen a UFO and people thought I was insane.

Dreamcast

And it all started when I witnessed Virtua Fighter 3 running in an arcade in early 1997 which made my Saturn suddenly look like shit…

…then reading about project "Blackbelt" in magazines mere weeks after…

PS2 without a doubt. I wasn't in the US at the time, so I gave the money to a friend who was traveling for 6 months so he could buy it for me, even though it meant having to wait that long. I bought GT3 months before having the console.

I have not been that exited about any other console ever since.

My first Amiga 500.
My 48k speccy would be a close second but that was my first computer ever so I had nothing to compare it to. The Amiga I had been eyeing longingly for a long time, going to the local mom and pop computer store just to play 5 minutes of IK+ or just watch someone playing something.
Totally lived up to the hype.

PS2

I must've watched the MGS 2 trailer a 100 times between E3 and the launch of the console

Nobody has made a better trailer of a game since then.

Maybe for younger generation its hard to grasp that kind of hype but E3 2000 is when gamers saw for the first time what "next gen" 3D could achieve and Kojima on top of that delivered the a GOAT trailer.

At that moment in time, there was imo no doubt you had to own a PS2, there was no way you're missing that boat if you were a gamer.

And 2001, holy shit

The OG Xbox. All other consoles prior to that I got either a generation late, or after launch as a (very generous) gift.

The Xbox was the first one I saved up for for months and devoured any and all magazine content about it that I could leading up to release. I was like a tweaker looking for any scraps of info I could find.

On release day, I come home from school, and my Mom had picked up my new Xbox and set it up like a store display so it was the first thing I saw as I walked in the door. Such a cherished memory of mine.

I love you, Mom!

Strangely the Wii. Went to the London launch day event at HMV. Ian Wright, Ricky Hatton, Pat Cash, and Nell McAndrew were there too. Was a fun time and the console had a lot of positive buzz near launch. I was pretty hyped for it.

PS3 - due to my age, the cost £425 ($800 equivalent), the Blu Ray Cell HD hype. Took 4 years for it to live up to the hype.

Nintendo DS - first system I bought for myself with my own pocket/birthday/Christmas money. Seeing games like Mario 64 DS and Mario Kart DS in the Argos magazine - hype. Ended up putting about 300 hours in to Pokemon Emerald. Playing MKDS online, what a great system.

Man the Wii launching with Twilight Princess was HYPE.

Shame it was all downhill from there with only a few good beats.

Wii probably the most hyped. The concept was so new and the imagination went wild with possibilities.

I remember lots of ps2 hype because you could play games and it was a dvd player.

Didn't get one until later tho

The first Playstation. I spent the summer working a job, during school vacations, so I could buy the it.
And it was awesome.

Some years later, I spend another summer working so I would buy my first PC.
This one ignited my passion for PC and hardware.

Oddly enough, the original Xbox. After experiencing the Dreamcast and PS2, this was a box that was offering a western experience, mixed with Sega's support post-dreamcastdeath, and it was a graphical powerhouse.

Everytime I saw some cool WRPG, or Halo 1/2, or JSRF, or magazine shots of how cool and different the games looked, I was jealous of the people who had it. I had to do quite a bit of chorework and helping people move over a couple of years before I could afford one.

Edit: Keep in mind that Japan pretty much ruled console gaming at the time and they also had almost all of the popular I.P. and commercial spotlight until Xbox came around. So me as a console kid, I was starstruck by Xbox and how big of a different experience it offered, all with more power to boot.

The first PlayStation. The whole generational shift was pretty great for me. I didn't care about the quirky polygons and texture warping. I was just excited for the new ways games were being presented.

PS2 - and when they announced the pre-order schemes and I didn't manage to snag a pre-order however walking into a Dixons store on release day managing to just buy one anyway which was just plain weird (to me)
