Got my PS1 a year into it's launch, Saturn 2 years after launch when it went on sale and came bundled with like 4 great games.
I did not buy an N64 until Ocarina came out and is the only game I ever bought for the system. Was worth it tho.
I was pretty hyped for Dreamcast. I loved Soul Blade and I had heard beforehand that Soul Calibur was the best looking game ever made (and it was!). Also I was excited for Crazy Taxi at home, NFL2K, and Power Stone!
PS2 launch was pretty lame, I bought SSX which was the best game at the time.
I didn't get either the 360 or PS3 at launch, like a year later on both. PS3 came bundled with MotorStorm which was amazing and I am glad because I never would have tried the series otherwise.
I got the GBA at launch because of Castlevania, SOTN was my favorite game and this was the closest thing to a sequel. Was a little underwhelming and no back light was a huge turn off. Waited on the DS and 3DS. I got a Wii years into it's cycle really just for Mario Galaxy.
I was very hyped for the PS4 despite none of the launch games being earth shattering. I preordered it the moment they announced no always-online, tradable/sellable games, and the Price. I was a big Killzone fan but that launch game was kind of lame. ResoGun was good.
PS5 I was not very hype but I got it day one (glad I did because they were so hard to find after) and I got to play several PS4 games at better settings, which was great because I was still playing Ghost of Tsushima and dabbling with Last of Us 2 replays. Also got those free like 12 games and got to play God Of War 2018 and Detroit for the first time and those were great.
So most hype overall I guess it was Dreamcast.
