....i need to go find my GBA game now :P

As I said in the other thread, this is likely to be the greatest game of all time.

With that said -

There simply isn't a wrestling series that can touch that greatness of Fire Pro.

In the new Amazon trailer, I spotted Mad Man Pondo (Fire Pro name: Murder Londo), 2 Tuff Tony (Fire Pro Name: 4 Rough Dory), Ryuji Itoh (Gindo Ryushi) and KUDO.

I was kinda disappointed with Fire Pro Z because, it seemed like a roster update of Fire Pro D with Fire Pro G's story mode. I was disappointed in Fire Pro D (compared to Six Man Scramble) because it limited the amount of players (no multitap) to four. But this looks like it will finally be the Fire Pro to eclipse Six Man Scramble for me and I'm not just saying that because a few of my friends made it into the game, either. The only thing that could hold it back, is an online mode to download file saves.

I went ahead and ordered on of those Sega Saturn looking PS2 controllers. Hope it works well together.

This game will steal my soul once again. 500 edit slots? Updated (better!) logic system? Man, it's over. OVER. The save thing is easy to get around with a Gameshark to pull save/edit files from the net (like I did with Z), but would have been better for Spike to do it themselves, however it's understandable WHY they aren't.

This is possibly the best wrestling game this gen, and it's been a long time coming ;_;

Do you have any links to where you can get edited Z roster saves? I may need to get a Gameshark so I can check these out :P

Must...mod...ps2!!!

I still play FPD on Dreamcast more than any other game in my library!

I checked out the movies, and the new moves look absolutly insane! I wonder what new fighting styles and counters they've added, as if they didn't have enough already. The only downside is that you probably can't play it online.

Ive always thought this series looked like shit. I hate the animation especially.

Sigh, if only the FP haters knew how much better this game is than American games, but they just can't get past the graphics.

6MS was the ultimate party game because most of my friends are wrestling fans...but it's aged and the funky music irritates. The entrance themes still rock hehe.

So just to triple check, this game supports 8 players am I right?

I'm gonna have to get another 4 player adapter...and more controllers. It'll be worth it!

Oh yeah...and MOD my PS2. :P

Anyone have any suggestions regarding this? I can't google for it because I get lots of crap sites. Are there any software MODs available so I could play Japanese games?

Damnit...why isn't someone publishing it Stateside?!

Got it, played a few matches when I was dead tired but recognized how much fun Fire Pro is. They really, really turned on all the old school flavor for this one. It looks like the late 80s/early 90s when you boot it up. Tons of new moves from what I could see...some awesome ones in there. Edit mode seems more compliated, yet simpler...if you mess around with it you'll know what I mean. Sound effects are much improved. Bigger sprites, but pixelated. More colorful. Good feeling of quality. Going to play it tonight, all night.

Hehe, I'd be playing it now if I wasn't jotting down translations.

I bought a used Japanese ps2. For me, that was the easiest way to play imports as mods were as expensive at the time. I hear there is a flip top mod option you can do by yourself, it involves taking the cover of your ps2 off and replacing it witha cover that allows you to play most imports. I was wary of that though.

The layer system is awesome. Finally, you can create a near perfect Ultimate Warrior. I just made him in all his glory...face 113, face paint 6. Friggin perfect or near it.

Is the game really 8 players? I just got mine in the mail and the back just says 1-2 players.

I think it's just 4 player...

I've been playing it recently and while certainly fun, I wish they would've just concentrated their energies on another KOC. Really, there's only so much you can do with FP's gameplay. I hope "Returns" isn't foreshadowing...

Actually, I think they're probably just holding off on next gen for a new KOC. I mean, Spike aren't exactly technical magicians. Shit, there's slowdown in tag matches in KOC2. They probably want to wait until PS3 or whatever to try to really expand KOC to include all the FP-specific stuff like battle royales and the deathmatches. At least, I certainly hope that's the case.

KOC on next gen is probably correct. Still, more Fire Pros are always good. There's room for both games. =) FPR does so much shit right so far =D But still can do more! =D

But yeah, I'd like another KOC now too =) I doubt KOC will ever be FP though.

In my opinion, playability-wise, it's already more. I like FP but the gameplay is just archaic at this point. From having to be on a precise axis for strikes to only being able to irish whip to two corners, the whole thing is just so antiquated.

There will always be a place in my heart for FP but after playing KOC, it's hard to go back.

Then again, my tastes are more towards MMA than wrestling now anyway so that might be why I feel the way I do. The MMA in KOC is unquestionably superior.

Not disagreeing with you. KOC is way more playable than FP, but the Fire Pro fanbase seems more into the actually editing of characters, and use of the logic and building amazing CAWs rather than going on about tight gameplay and etc. KOC is much more fun to PLAY, but really, really blah to program and create CAWs for.

They both cover two kinds of wrestling game fan. KOC will not match what FP can offer CAW/logic wise, and FP will not match KOC's gameplay. <shrugs>

Agreed all around.

The problem with KOC's edit mode is that they tried to adapt FP's system of just having a bunch of different heads. In FP, this works because of the 2D. It's much easier to pass one head off as another. With the detail that 3D offers, however, it makes it much harder. Hopefully, the next version of KOC will allow you to actually customize the heads with eyes, noses, and whatnot. As far as logic goes, though, I think they're actually quite similar.

The 1up preview of the game :)
http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3144004&did=1

...It's pretty tough to write a preview on a game like Fire Pro Wrestling Returns because there is just so much that can be said about the game despite limited word space. From the new intuitive menu system that makes CAW a piece of cake to the awe of watching a masked Mexican wrestler do a running summersault out of ring and onto an unsuspecting opponent, Returns just captures the feel of wrestling with perfection. As one member of a certain gaming forum put it, "...this is likely to be the greatest game of all time." And if you are a wrestling fan that may indeed be true. Despite no U.S. release planned, the series has a huge internet following and if you're a big wrestling fan willing to swim through some Japanese text, there are lots of translations and people out there to help you get started. So if you're interested, get ready for the best wrestling experience of your life.

So is it only 4 players max?

Secondly...I'll need a modded PS2 to play this...if it's only 4 players I'll pass just because I don't think it's worth over $100 for everything.

It's 8 players max according to the manual.

this simply has to be QFT.

The only other game out there that comes close is *shock* another Spike game King of Colosseum 2.

I'm gonna have to have Balckace pick me up a copy of this, after I pay for my tux though. Damn friends getting married and having me in it....ergh.

THEY HAVE THE CANADIAN DESTROYER. GOTY!

I'm so God damn jealous of you, Biff. Whats the cheapest way I can get my ps2 to play this?

AH FUCK YES! Ok, gotta get it now. Show me a bigger set of TNA finishers and a roster edit for TNA and I'm ALL OVER THIS. Shame no six sided ring in there.

Post pics of your CAWs!

This thread makes me wanna play the import on my micro...

...or better yet, play the import on my dreamcast! Now all I gotta do is hook it up...

Ok...then it's a definate purchase.

I think the best way to go about it is to buy an import PS2. Hopefully they're pretty cheap nowadays.
