No no no! Climax Landers was an abomination.

Landstalker was on the Megadrive and played like an isometric Zelda. Up there with SNES Zelda as my favourite action-RPG.

The gameplay of Alundra was wonderful. The story translation and the dialogue, not so much.

Forget "hailed as." It was one of the PSX's top RPGs. Plot and translation, while not exactly literary genius, were far more involving than any given Zelda installment, and the gameplay was ace.

Too bad Activision shat its good name right down the toilet with the "sequel."

Also, before this thread degenerates into a Landstalker vs. Alundra battle, I'm not sure why one has to rule and the other suck ... they're both great games IMO

I've tried playing the original Landstalker a few times, but could never bring myself to play further than a couple hours in. Maybe it's the dull combat or the lack of a map... whatever.

Can't do the rest as I don't even consider Alundra II to be an Alundra game. I guess you'll have to play Alundra to see why people think this

I hope Climax add shadows so that you can better see where to jump in the dungeons.

Also better controls and a bigger soundtrack would be fine.

Nope, Equinox (and its predecessor, Solstice) was developed by a European team. It does look and feel Japanese, though.

You can thank Sony for that actually... they forced Matrix to shackle the Alundra name to Alundra 2. Up until late in development it was going to have a different title entirely.

It was a quasi-LandStalker sequel by the same team. Not as good but still decent, Taito published it iirc... it was also the team's last game at Climax before leaving to form Matrix.

Oh, I've touched it, it just crashes my Gamecube constantly

But, yes, I forgot about that one. Very moving plot as far as I've gotten. There's a feeling of urgency and reality none of the other games has... though LttP is close. Still, Alundra had that same feeling of involvement to me.
