Official Oddworld: Stranger thread

I know this game isn't as high profile as some other games that get an official thread. But I just finished watching the 25 minute preview of the game that is on the latest EGM disc and I am so pumped now.

If this game had been coming out before Christmas it would have been at the top of my list.
Visuals look stunning, the gamespeak sounds as funny as ever and Stranger looks pretty freakin cool.
The way Stranger runs is sweet. And I'm excited about how smoothly the game transitions from First person view to Third person view.

And last but not least (for now) the "Live Ammo" feature looks awesome.

Game looks like it borrows from some great games (Metal Gear Solid series, PoP) and then adds the Oddworld touch to it for a totally new experience.

Is anyone else excited about this game??? Jan. 25th can't come soon enough

I'm not 'excited' but it's the only game that really captures my interest in January. If I can finish Metal Arms by then I may get this..

EGM gave it 8.5's according to the other thread. Solid.

Looks great in the vids. This is what the original Oddworld should have been.

Thumbs up to EA (yes EA!) for publishing this.

Compared to Munch's Odyssey, this is very different. I don't like how there doesn't seem to be any platforming or puzzle bits. How much platforming and puzzles were in the first two on the PS?

The first two were very puzzle heavy. This game is going more the route of action/adventure.

The big thing that makes this game look so sweet is the ammo system. You actually shoot living creatures at your enemies. Each kind of ammo has different atributes so I guess you can consider the ammo abilities to be a bit of a puzzle.

I guess you could conider it puzzlish.

I liked in the EGM video when all the townsfolk were coming out of the buildings the one dude said something like "You just calm down you peckerhead". :lol

im somewhat excited about the game cause the videos look sweet but i fear the shooting elements will be medicore compared to something like halo 2.

I just hope the game isnt a pretty package with shallow gameplay.

peace

Yeah someone says something like "why don't you just take your medication and settle down a bit." :lol

i'm pretty excited for it. looks awesome in every way thus far.... aside from the EA logo.

I don't know if they all should have been action adventure from the start. :D But I think it's about time the series puts some more action into the games.
I really liked Munch on the Xbox. I know not many people really got a chance to play it. But if someone out there is interested in a fun platformer/puzzle game get Munch. It's gotta be super cheap.

A picless official thread?

I finished it last month, 8.5 is a good score to give it! Not much replayability though I fear, but nice enough to warrant a buy overall, it's quality stuff.

A couple years ago some TV network produced a show recalling the trials and tribulations of game development on Xbox, focusing mostly on the Crimson Skies debacle. During that piece there was a clip of Lorne Lanning pitching 'Stranger' to Ed Fries through a variety of basic design sketches. "He's like a furry Clint Eastwood!"

Hard to believe it's actually here now, I forgot about it, and still know nothing about the game beyond the above screens and Lorne's sketchbooks.

good to hear. are you guys gonna offer up some tasty media any time soon?

i am pretty excited about this game. looks amazing and the production quality of this studio is incredible. i have still yet to see more amazing cutscenes than those found at the end of Munch. they were just freakin insane!

It does look damn cool, but if you are only buying one game in January, it should be Resident Evil 4.

That's kinda a tough decision. :D Here's hoping that everyone can afford two games in January.

I will probably rent RE4 anyways, jsut in case later on its announced to have added features in the PS2 version.

Wow, nice pics. Dig the western death valley thing. Purchase +1.
This one in particular.....like that hat.

I was sold on this once I got the presentation at EGN. Them Oddworld lads got their shit covered.

I've been told by a close mate reviewing it that the first two levels are a little too easy, but after that, it's you get the full kick of the game.

Can't wait personally - been following it for a while now.

We got some gameplay clips already from EA, they short but sweet;

Maybe we will make custom ones, but I doubt it. To be honost all there is left to show is the more boring levels. :) The rest is all there in the screenshots and gameplay clips I think hehe. Well almost, of course the levels are a bunch bigger haha. but they give the gist of it.

But maybe! Also depends on how EA wants to promote the title before we invest a lot of time in a game that way. Unless it's a big or otherwhilse exciting new title and it's the first footage etc.

Pics of the day. I just wanted to show off a couple of pics of the "Live Ammo"

Now, after seeing these screenshots, do people understand why I won't be buying Jade Empire with its bilinear filtering and crappy textures/models?..

January 3, 2005 - Electronic Arts has announced final approval of the Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath code. In other words, the latest Oddworld game has officially gone gold. The title is expected to hit the Xbox on January 25.

Reviews are starting to come out.

XBN - Oddworld Stranger Wrath - 9

OXM - Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath - 8.7/10

Nothing is out from any online sites yet. But I'm expecting to see similar reviews from everyone.

I am so jacked for this game.

Since this game sounds like a one and done experience I may have to take advantage of the blockbuster no more late fees keep it some extra days without penalty but not too long so I don't buy it plan and just finish it.

I'm buying it as soon as it's out. I've watched the stupid dvd that came with my EGM mag like 4 times. :D Game just looks so nice.

That's actually what got me excited about it too. Beforehand I hadn't really heard too much on it.

This thread lacks pictures !

This game looks so good. I'm very impressed with what the oddworld inhabitants programers managed to do with the Xbox hardware.
