Well, it should be in stores by tomorrow. Who's getting it?

Has any of the press here at GAF already played it? If so, have they messed with my swinging system? Because if they have, I might have to pay Treyarch a lil visit and beat someones ass :)

I'm strongly leaning towards getting it, although I'd like to see at least one review first. Probably reviews will go up tonight.

Yeah, I've been anxiously awaiting the reviews. I'm surprised there hasn't been a print review that's shown up yet.

I picked up the DS version yesterday, and it is surprisingly very well done. If you guys want impressions I'll write some up.

Well, I personally don't care about the DS version, only the Xbox version - but feel free to give your impressions if you want.

Please throw some quick impressions up, if you don't mind. I saw this at Target yesterday and almost made an impulse purchase, but decided to wait and hear the reviews.

All I want is true (Spiderman 2) web slinging.

...And free roaming in a huge city.

...And while I'm at it some better music (Spiderman 2's music was horrible).

...Oh and true 5.1 sound

...Ok and more mission variety.

Is that too much to ask?

By true webslinging I am guessing you mean how it was implemented in SP2 right?

Also, I kinda liked the music in SP2.

Yea Spidey2 web slinging.

The only good music was the orchestral themes from the movie that would pop up very rarely. The but rock tunes that they played during the mini missions were really bad.

My thinking is if they were gonna steal from GTA they should've gone all the way. Make Spidey use a walkman to listen to tunes and support custom soundtracks. Webslinging to the tune of Danger Zone would be nice heh.

Yeah, custom music would rule. I doubt we will get that though.

Just by looking at the trailers it looks so much smoother than Spider-Man 2 both animation wise, and frame rate wise. Activision should be sending me my copy soon :D

Stores were supposed to get it yesterday, but because of a shipping error it didn't happen. Activision tried to a get an early release. So even though today is the shipping date, you will probably see it on store shelves today. Definitely give some stores a call today.

Basically my purchase hinges on how the swinging has been implemented. If it's exactly the same as SM2, I'm golden and I will buy it. If not, well - I may not even bother. That was the best aspect of SM2. It was like Tony Hawk in a way, but you were Spider-Man.

I am really looking forward to the console version of this game, but I just couldn't pass it up on the DS. I put a few hours into the DS game and have been very surprised at how polished this version is compared to the Spider-man 2 launch title. Vicarious Visions really did a great job at fixing the issues present in the first game.

The main reason that I enjoy Ultimate Spider-Man on the DS is simply because it is 2-D. From my experiences, this game is by far the best 2-d sidescroller that I have played in a while. The game controls very well which is surprising given the number of available moves for Spidey. The touch screen is used to select your special move, which can be activated when your bar reaches a certain level. Luckily, the game also uses the touch screen for special in-game manuvers where Spider-Man must execute a special type of action such as lifting a car where a person is trapped underneath it.

I haven't had much experience as Venom yet, but from what I've encountered, it is truly a lot of fun to control the villain via the touch screen. It really adds an interesting angle to the game. I'll get back to you guys later with some more impressions after I finish the next few missions.

Jesus Christ no. Keep that shit out of my Spider-Man games. Fuck you Xbox for starting this horrible trend.

But yeah, can't wait to pick this up as SM2 is the best comic game ever. GameCube version get.

Umm, why is giving the user the option a bad thing? I am sure if they did give the option - you would still be able to listen to the default music. Your reasoning against this option is flawed IMO.

:lol You can listen to the default music if you want to. No one's forcing you to listen to your own music.

Because no one should be allowed to listen to a game like that. Video games are art just as much as movies are. It is the developers showing complete disrespect to the composer of the game.

It is no different than watching Spider-Man 2 or Batman Begins with a mix CD of Good Charlotte and 50 Cent in place of the actual music in the movie. And the idea of being able to fuck with art like that disgusts the hell out of me.

I second that. I remember when people were saying that Green Day song would be in Batman Begins. I was expecting a great score, luckily when I went to see the film I was treated to one of the best film scores in some years.

...you just go from one thread to another spreading laughter(at you) and chaos in your wake...

It is not disrespect to give users the option to choose what music they wish to listen too... that's crazy talk.

What about deaf people, does their disregard for movie and game soundtracks disgust you?

So if you get your Batman Begins DVD with the option of putting your own music in the background, you don't think that disrespects Christopher Nolan, James Newton Howard, or Hans Zimmer? Your making yourself sound foolish trying to proof your point.

Yeah, except I don't. But if you can show me my last 10 recent posts that prove that, go right ahead.

But you may have a point seeing as though at least one person agreed with me. Nice try though. Jackass.

And no, it is in no way "crazy talk". It IS disrespectful to the composer. Why would they feel the need to put all their effort into it when they know half the idiot teenagers in America are going to replace their music with the latest top 10 on TRL? Give me a break.

This is just one thing that shouldn't be part of the REMIX GENERATION.

Check the mirror buddy... when I buy a DVD I can do whatever the hell I want with it... that includes setting the sound on mute, putting sub-titles on and playing whatever music in the background I choose.

You want to talk foolish... supporting 99% of the crap Zeo spews in these forums.. THAT'S foolish.

EDIT:

Zeo just because someone here supports a statment you make doesn't automatically make the statement more right or wrong.

BTW most composers put the time and effort in to their music as a labor of love.

I would like to concede that putting Jay-Z or JaRule on your custom soundtracks would be blatant disrespect to the game maker.

Yeah.. all that crap I spew like.. and uh.. .. Oh.

.. And holy shit, did you just tell someone to CHECK THE MIRROR, BUDDY? 5th grade is fun.

I'd like to concede that putting Vanilla Ice on your soundtrack... anyway it does bring up an interesting question... should custom soundtracks be used in games where the music is more germaine to what's going on in the game? For racing games, sports, etc... music is just "background noise", but for dramatic, action games, etc... music along with what is happening on the screen can help to raise/adjust your emotional response to it... should custom soundtracks be an option?

The whole a majority of teenagers would just change the soundtrack if they could is impossible to prove either way at this point.

I'm not saying banning custom from ALL games. Racing and sports games usually don't have composed soundtracks or musical scores. My main point in those games if the director or composer have a particular theme in the game I don't think their vision should be messed with.

I enjoy custom soundtracks alot. i liek having that option...even in games like halo 2 i would like to have that option because after playing a bizzilion online deathmatchs i get tired of the same music.

also some good games have truly bad music regardless of the composer so i dont give a fuck if i disrespect them because i paid fucking $60.

I understand that... but my point is... #1. who are you or I for that matter to decide for everyone else what they should or should not be able to do in a videogame they purchased with their money? and #2. That it doesn't make any sense to take this as some personal insult.

EDIT:

OMG another poster agreed with me... that must mean I'm right!!! :rolleyes

If you really listened to the soundtrack for the last spidey game, You'd want your own choice of music as well.

I would agree from a certain point of view that music should be respected, but when you're dealing with a free roaming 'endless' style game there should be some room for giving the user the option if the opportunity was available.

Let me hear whatever song I want while messing around the city but give me the orchestral soundtrack during the main missions would be fine by me IMO.

Weaksauce.

I second that. STFU you trolls and get out of my Spider-Man thread.

One other thing regarding custom soundtracks, ALL 360 games are supposed to support them supposedly. So, maybe you better go crying to Microsoft now.

Hey! What's up Spruce!!! Love the avatar!

I hope there's a way to unlock a normal looking Spider-Man from the regular continuity along with the classic Venom. Those eyes and the lack of his insignia... I don't know. I hate this guy's art, but I'll have to deal with it.

I don't think that's gonna happen.

*Takes notes* "More options=bad" ................only on a VIDEO GAME forum is this even an argument......I could see calling some games art, but as long as the custom soundtrack feature isn't forced upon the user how the hell can that be bad?

Let's please not start that again. I agree with you, but the argument is ridiculous if you ask me.

Unfortunately we can't get shit because it appears the game may not really be out. What the hell?

It's supposed to ship today, so I'd expect it in stores tomorrow at the earliest. Why Activision didn't just release this normally (i.e. Tuesday ship), I don't know.

EDIT: Although this looks to have changed to next week maybe. too bad.
