Oh yeah! Haggling with Dell Sales on the phone works!

So, I wanted the 24 inch widescreen monitor they just came out with to replace my six year old, dying CRT.

Unit Price is $1199.

Last week, they had an LCD sale, with 10% off, including this, dropping it to $1079. Then they pulled it, but only on this monitor.

I called up, asking to get the monitor for cheaper than $1199. First, she wouldn't budge, saying they had a memo from the managers saying that the price on the 24-inch, and only the 24-inch, was exempt from the 10/15/25% monitor deals.

I said that wasn't good enough, asked if there was a first time purchaser discount. Was on hold for about ten minutes... she comes back, $1099.

Sorry, that ain't good enough, can I speak directly with a manager?

On hold for another ten minutes or so, "The best we can give you is 15% off."

Total Order Amount: $1,019.15

Sweet deal! Personally, I don't have any luck haggling with anyone but car salesmen (and the local sheet music store, for some reason), because the chain stores are incredibly uptight about profits. It's unbelievable to me that so many stores would rather lose a customer by refusing to discount an item, rather than budging just a little bit so I feel better about my purchase and about the store...

I don't really agree with haggling with Dell, however if you experience any problems either with the system or with shipping, Dell is really nice about compensating you. I've listened in on customer service calls where the reps will offer free zip drives/printers and even free money if the customer's experienced legitimate problems (such as shipping taking too long, or a machine being defective out of the box and taking weeks to get fixed).

My mom accidentally ordered a SATA hard drive instead of an EIDE one. After a call to customer service, we were refunded the money to order the correct drive, and they told us to keep the SATA drive. HOT!

Yeah I hear way too many good things about Dell. Most of their PCs come with free gifts, and it seems they hand those out to appease people calling them too :lol

"Hi, I'm having a problem with your shipping."
"Sure, how's a FREE MP3 PLAYER sound?"
"Well, that doesn't really..."
"Well I'll throw in a PRINTER too!"

Fuck. I lost the power cord for my Epson printer and they won't even send me another one. I have to phone one of three warehouses, for which they gave me numbers...
