In germany it's rude to piss standing up in someone elses toilet. you should sit down to pee. IF UR A MAN. is this common anywhere else? the way i found out was I was taking a slash at my gfs brothers house and it had a sign on the toilet saying 'bitte' (thanks) with a man pissing standing up and a big red X through it, then beside that a sign saying 'Danke' with the dude sitting down pissing..... I came out of the bathroom laughing and said "funny sign on your toilet". then he said "thats not a funny sign...."

Colour me surprised. is this common world over?

:O wow.... I feel so uneducated. I was priding myself on not offending anybody and then my gf kind of said 'yeah my mum noticed that you.....' didn't even realise it was a thing.

FYI in New Zealand, its the custom to hold your cock like a baseball bat, scream "FREEDOM" and piss right in the toilet, standing up, like god intended for men to do.

It's crazy, I'm abiding by the customs (when in Rome.....) but everytime i sit down for a piss, I rip off some paper when I'm done to wipe my ass..... then go "oh right, I'm just pissing like a woman, not taking a shit"

well it's kind of rude to ignore something like that, plus I was notorious for leaving the toilet seat up (something that woman in NZ like to complain about and men like to not give a shit about) but it's ingrained and if I was to ignore the rule, I would snap myself out pretty quick.

I was just compelled to post about it because it really strikes me as odd, that any man ever would willingly pee sitting down....

It's more of a noise abatement thing, I believe. It's not common through Europe, but there are a few countries that prefer that.

Here in Switzerland, it's a noise thing. Certain apartments have tenancy rules that state explicitly that you cannot piss standing up on a Sunday as the noise might annoy your neighbours. Same with washing your car, vacuumming, et al. I had assumed it was much the same reason.
