Ok, I'm thinking of taking the plunge on buying an HDTV but have questions.

First off, I have decided that it will be 16:9. I will use it mainly for Movies and Games. But after looking at some I have some questions:

1. I know that there are HDTV and HDTV Monitor, would getting an HDTV that requires a special receiver make the quality go down as opposed to buying one that doesn't require it?
2. What are the best brands?
3. Should I go up to at least a ertain size for it to be worth the $$$?
4. Is it possible for it to be paid on a monthly basis, and if so is there any bad things about it doing it that way as opposed to just paying it off as soon as I get it?

Thanks for the help!

1. no. your cable/satellite provider will have HD built into every box when HD becomes mainstream. if you dont have the extra 2/300$ skip it. you need an HD antenna to get free HD programming as well without it coming from a pay provider.

2. toshiba and samsung for cost and picture quality. best bang for the buck.

3. i have a 50 and 65 inch. love em both. for the cost, a good RPTV is well worth the price.

4. best buy credit card. no interest for 6months to a year but i've paid cash for mine. credit cards suck.

No there isn't quality lost but you could get one with a built in cable card slot so you can have card instead of a box

Look at samsung for lcd panels, panasonic for plasma (hdtv), Panasonic/Sony/Samsung for CRT's, and Mitsubishi/Samsung/Toshiba for RPTV.

Depends on the distance you sit from your set. usually a 32"-46" would be fine for most.

Best Buy Card allows for 2 years no interest financing right now.

It's a trap! Look at his icon!

or you could go on the internet. it doesn't matter where you get it as long as you enjoy your set. I work for best buy yes but we do have the biggest selection of tv's to see and demo. Many other retailers have financing offers look into them.

Only if there are no Frys Electronics near you.

Or Microcenter/HHGregg - their selection blows Best Buy well out of the water.

A few things I would say:

You'd be nuttier than a bag of peanuts to not look at the Olevia Syntax or Westinghouse sets, Phillips stuff is pretty much all trash, and you really need to ask this question at www.avsforum.com. The extent to which they can (and probably already have) answer all your questions will be stunning :)

And then after you see them in person at Best Buy, buy it from Amazon.com with no tax, and to help support GAF. (plus Amazon.com >>>>>>> Best Buy)
