Old? Baten Kaitos DS & Xenosaga DS announced

?

Yeah, this is pretty much a WTF.

Baten Kaitos works, with the cards in battle, I'm just surprised they're making it a franchise.
But Xenosaga?

W00t?

Great news, great news indeed.

I just wonder when I will get my DS. I preordered it at videogames+ in october and they told me they can't ship alle preorders.
I hope I will have it by January.

If this is Pied Piper, people are gonna be really happy.

I'm almost finished with it on cell phone and it's 20 hours+, has the best story and writing of any handheld rpg (basically on the same level as the XS script), has ONE HOUR CUTSCENES ^_^, and a battle system pretty close to the ep1 system. The dungeon design is pretty weak, but I chalk that up to being on a cell-phone, if they bring it to DS hopefully they'll redo the dungeons.

XS Pied Piper >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> XSep2

So we're going to get silent film on DS? I mean we can't expect Namco to fit in all that voice acting in 128mb.

Awesome news on BK though, I wonder how that'll end up turning out.

I guess it can't get any worse after Xenosaga Episode II.

Even if this is a go-kart racer starring XS character with you winning XS cards that can't be used and only looked at in the gallery, it'll be better.

Hell me sitting in the toilet pooping (HUMPING POOP!) while reading yaoi doujins of XS would probably be better than XS Ep2, so no loss there!

Sell your PSP it's all over, cancel your order!!!1

Seriously, tremendous news!

What's so tremendous about this news? Namco is porting a 6.5 RPG and the RPG with the most boring combat ever to the DS. That's all. I don't see how this could inflict damage to PSP sales.

And don't forget that PSP is getting Tales of Eternia! And Tales of >>>>> Baten Kaitos + Xenosaga

Wonder which Xenosaga game it'll be....probably not one in the series, my guess is it'll be either some spinoff or a remake of xenogears (which could work pretty well with the DS graphics)

a) After Xenosaga Freaks, are you really still thinking that every Xenosaga game has to even make sense? I expect it to be either a minigame-fest (great chance to use the stupid trademarks they licensed: Xenosaga Extra, Xenosaga Frontier, Xenosaga Exceed) or a Xenocard game. If it -is- a serious game, it'll just be a port of Xenosaga Pied Piper.

b) Monolithsoft doesn't own Xenogears, Xenogears has nothing to do with Xenosaga. GET OVER IT!

Where did you get the idea these are ports?

You are right. It's written nowhere that the two games are ports, but I don't expect them to be that different from their counterparts on the home consoles. So my question remains: how could they inflict damage to the psp sales?

Those are jokes, have you not entered PSP or DS threads before? DS/PSP d00m3d comments have been made in just about every news thread.

Maybe the game will be on a DS card and the movies will be on some GBA video carts licensed from Majesco.

DS is turning out to be quite rpg machine. perhaps year from now it will be impossible not grab one if they turn out good P

*confused*

If they are ports, i'm very very confused

Xenosaga = Voices and FMV
Baten Kaitos = FMV Backgrounds

I own a DS, and would love a ton of rpgs.. but this is baffeling, perhaps they will be new games?

Pied Piper is basically the backstory of Jan (Ziggy from XS) that takes place 100 years before ep1. It also expands and gives a little more background info and hints about characters and events in XSep2+.

The game was released as 3 chapters which were 2 parts each. Each part was a 256k application.

The gameplay is basically like XSep1's system but without mechs. You have boost, AP, ether. Outside of battle each of the characters has a field auto-skill which happens when that character is the visible leader. For example Jan can see traps, whereas one of the other characters can see invisible chests. Unlike ep1 you don't get to customize your tech blows at all, so it's mainly just figuring out which techs work on which enemies and becoming as efficient as possible. Also finding all the chests in the dungeons is pretty useful since that's where the armor/weapon upgrades are.

The game is divided into long cutscenes and long dungeons. Each 'part' of the game is basically a whole lot of talking and then an hour or two length dungeon and then a bunch more text/cutscenes. The gameplay part for the most part is just ok, it's basically 'if you explore the entire dungeon and get all the chests you'll have gained enough levels to beat the boss'. But it's really the story that sets the game apart. The story is written by Takahashi and unlike ep2 where Monolith Soft. Staff completely altered his script, it seems as though only a few minor things were changed in PP. So if you like Takahashi's intelligent writing then the game is very engrossing. The story is very adult orientated and kinda depressing/disturbing. Also there really is a lot of dialogue in the game. There can be 10-15 mins of text boxes quite often and there's even an hour long cutscene at the start of chapter 3 which has a save spot in the middle.

Basically I've just been playing it when I go eat and I'm waiting for my food to arrive so I still haven't finished it. But it's lasted me 3 months now playing almost daily and I'm still finding it intruiging.

It'll be nice if they do port it to a system since between the purchase costs and the costs for downloading the game added up to about $75-100 :\

Huh? How is this even possible?

just like RPGs were possible back on nes and snes :P

awesome :D

Namco is porting a 6.5 RPG

worst trolling ever. Maybe it didn't get a 6.5 from every game magazine you know? It's over 80% at gamerankings.

Namco has teamed up with Nintendo a lot latley.

Woo! I haven't even played the console version of Baten Kaitos yet and it'll probably be a while before I do so. But... um... Woo! anyways.
