I decided to shy away from party spots and see a a couple states that have previously been merely drive-through states for me...
Louisiana and Mississippi
It was a lot of fun and I saw some really cool stuff along the way.
My friend's great uncle's plot of land in Baton Rouge, LA
THE THIRD STATE IS MY LAUNCHPAD... TEXAS
First stop was a BBQ at my friend's great uncle's place. He has a huge plot of land with a fishing pond, a tire swing, and some kickass eats.
It was nice of him to have us.
We stopped that night at my friend's aunt's houst on the other side of Lake Ponchatrain from New Orleans. The next morning we headed across the longest bridge in the US to the french quarter where I had the occasion to see some of the most interesting people. Lot's of great artists, some psychics, street performers, and a wide variety of oddball locals.
This guy and his posse were some fit sons of gun... not only did he climb the steps like that, but he did 10 push ups at the top and made his way back down.
My friend, the human robot. He was blaring techno music and was full-out robot dancing. Pretty cool, so I dropped him a buck.
This is smokey the clown... the only clown I've seen who smokes while making balloon animals for kids.
We went from there down the river walk to the Aquarium to see the Albino Alligator and the sharks. A good hour diversion.
Albino Alligator... they had some beautiful blue eyes
On the way out we caught this guy.
This dude puppateered to the blues. He's very good at what he does, too. Reminded me of being John Malcovich.

ENTER MISSISSIPPI
YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN MISSISSIPPI WHEN...
:lol
*sigh*
We stayed at my friend's nana's house for a couple days while in Brookhaven, MS and ventured out from there each day in a different direction.
The coolest day we went to a neighboring town completely untouched by civilization post 1970. We got some boiled peanutes and explored all of the old houses.
Here is a house build in the 1800s that was collapsed in the middle. It looked like it was a store at some point.
Same house, but a shot from the side.
On the way back we passed a lumber yard that had an absolutely huge machine that dwarfed the giant trees around it. It would pick up a huge bundle of tall evergreens and toss it to the side like it was nothing. To add to the awesomeness, it was spewing black liquid as it did it.
here is the beast... the picture doesnt do it justice
We left this morning and hit up the Historic Vicksburg, MS... A famous Civil War battle ground where the Union trapped Cofederate soldiers and basically starved them to death. 17,000 died in a matter of weeks.
There were a ton of memorials there, but I thought the old 1860s house was the coolest. You weren't allowed in, but I found a broken window and snapped this.
Old house in Vicksburg.
We took the long way home. Bad idea. Pretty sunset, though.
I'm thinking about going camping or heading to the beach with the weekend I have left.
