OMG PSP + 1 GB or XBOX 360?

I have a tough decision to make. I could buy the PSP plus a 1GB memory stick tomorrow or I could wait for an xbox 360 to become avaliable.

I am enticed by the possibility of portable GTA and playing movies on the run. However I am not sure how often I will be able to play portably anyways. The quality of the games looks great and near PS2 levels, so I am excited about this fact and the fact that it is portable and will play music and converted divx.

However, I am also excited about the XBOX 360. I am not happy that it is not easily avaliable, but call of duty 2 looks so sick. I am not sure how often I will be able to sit down and engross myself into a game, but I like the prospect of owning a new generation system. However I also have thought of holding off for PS3

What should I do???? PSP now? or wait for an XBOX 360 to become avaliable and spring for the extra bucks?

I didnt say id be able to play it less. It is just at my current job, the opportunities to play dont present themselves often , since we often go out to lunch. it would be a toilet game mainly. However I hear we may stop going out to lunch a lot and then it would become handy

*edit* yea, so I still think i would play PSP more, but i am not sure how much more

You'll be happy with either one...but getting a 360 tomorrow would be a major feat!

I love my PSP, but I have to admit that I can't really play it for too long because it just puts me in an akward situation. I've used it on 11 hour bus trips, as a movie player, game player, and mp3 player, and I just can't get comfortable with it. Even when home I'm lying down, I just can't play for a long time...that's why I'm hoping the PS3 will have a solution where you can play it on the big screen.

But I can already see these two machines being my favourite consoles for the next 5 years. The PSP can do everything, and same with the 360.

I know the feeling. I hope the Revolution has an adapter where you can play DS games on your television somehow.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like the PSP is neat, but you dont utilize the portability as much as you should? You would love it as a console machine too. That says a lot about the machine.

What makes the PSP so awkward for long periods of time. i would love to here more details about this. Is it the size, the screen or what?

Xbox 360 avaliabilty is an issue too! I know i cant get one tomorrow. Shipments in this area are limited for some reason. my target hasnt received any since launch. and I have an inside source!

No, the problem is with me. When sitting and playing, I crane my head downwards while playing and I can't do that for more than a 1/2 hour without getting a sore neck. :P

At home I lie down and play it but find myself rolling a lot...whereas I could play games from my beanbag chair for hours.

Well, my advice would be to purchase both.

But, if you really have to choose, buy PSP now, and X360 (with Oblivion!) in the Spring.

I sold my PSP because I just couldnt get confortable with the buttons. The analog "stick" is placed too low, they should have put it where that crappy d-pad is. Games were good, I loved playing RR, Toca and Colin McRae while laying on the couch but my fingers got tired way too quickly. IMO ofcourse.

had a PSP for about 7-8 months... I played it only if I couldnt fall asleep or if I was in the bathroom.... watched maybe 3 movies and had maybe 3 games... 1 of which i really liked LUMINES... other than that... waste of time for me... Gave it back to my girlfriend that is going to use it to watch movies on her commute...

My PSP is a toilet machine. I only travel maybe once or twice a year tops and that's the only time I use it portably. Since I'm not someone that has to spend 4 hours a day on the subway or bus, I don't get much use out of it except as a games machine. I'm not about to spend $15-$25 for UMD's when I can get the DVD's just as cheap, and in most cases even cheaper and play them on my home theater. Its kind of clunky to haul around as an .mp3 player and I would never use it for that purpose while I'm jogging or exercising because I'm too scared that it might accidentally fall or get the screen damaged. As for the games - there's nothing special that you can't get on a console. I've got 5 PSP games and they're all plauged by EXTREMELY long loading times, which I'm starting to think is a fatal flaw of the system. I could only recommend buying one at the still-expensive price of $250 - IF and only IF you don't spend much time at home.

360. Definitely. It will be with you for the next 5 years. Maybe 4. :)

I'm sure Sony will be releasing a new PSP model anyway. They have to. A built in hard disk only makes sense.

own both the psp and x360..If I could only have one, x360 would be the one. The psp just kills my hands when using it..I dont use it much as I work so when at home, I rather play on a regular console.

Get the x360.

seems everyone is going for 360.... it sounds like the psp controller figuration hurts and I should wait a while for a 360 to pop up. Anyone suggest otherwise? that I buy a PSP now... LOVE GTA and wait for the PS3 to buy next gen?

ouchas, well i havent played FPS on the consoles much. is it easy to get used to?

Shouldn't be too bad once you get down dual-analog controls. Took me a bit of getting used to at first, too.

Good to hear. I am not a huge PC FPS. Took me a while to get used to counterstrike. However, since then, it is hard for me to adjust to console FPS. Although, I know that if I am forced to play them for a while, I will control them just fine. I just didnt feel comfortable playing the demo

360 because there's at least some game that might be interesting in the future. And buy a DS if you don't have one... much better investment.

Get the X360 if you live in your moms basement & its cold down there- PSU should bring room temps up a bit. Otherwise, PSP has the better library at the moment.

PSP. Right now it has some must-haves like GTALCS, SOCOM and Lumines. But (early) next-year very much games are coming our way: Every Extend Extra, New GTA, Me & My Katamari, Field Commander, Exit, Tales of Eternia, Loco Roco, a new MGS and much, much more..

GO GET PSP

360 purely from the standpoint that a price drop on the PSP* will very likely happen before a price drop on the 360.

(* I don't mean a "OMG BOMBA!" price drop, I mean a strategic one to $200 within the next year or so)

The xbox 360 doesnt really have much in the way of good games and it costs too much plus you have to put up with alot of xbox 360 launch hassle tm liek games crashing etc.

PSP is also costly although its got much more games and quite afew very good ones now.

I'd wait for a price cut on both to be honest. If you are in the US i would say PSP because it has games like Socom already out. So you'll be well occupied and having fun with the games.

Avoid DS.

Get a PSP if you frequently ride in mom's minivan and have midget hands......
Get a 360 if you're a burly man with impeccable taste....

If you have broadband and would play on Xbox Live, its not even close.

If you dont have broadband or refuse to pay 50 bucks for Live, then its alot closer. Personally, I think the PSP's library is a bit too much PS2 lite... but if the libary apeals to you, its a great piece of hardware.

I feel sorry for people who only have enough money to do one or the other... in this situation each has it's + and -

PSP if you commute by public transport, or spend an incredibly long time on the toilet. Otherwise, X360 if you can find one, and have a 720p display.

Joke post, right? Please say yes!

PSP. Don't get first revision hardware (of any console). People who buy hardware on launch are hardware beta testers.

It's all down to your personal preferences, really. One obvious set of questions I'd ask is whether you've already got a handheld and whether you've already got a current-gen console. If you're missing only one of these, it makes sense to fill the other gap if you think you'll get some good use out of it.

For me, PSP has got more in the way of good gaming right now, but X360 is obviously going to pick up over time. YMMV. Though I'd advise against buying any system for a single game.

Here's one way to look at it - assume you'd buy four games with each system. Which ones would you buy? Now which set of four games appeals to you more?

Don't buy EITHER right now.

There is almost no reason to buy an X360 right now -- the library isn't there yet, and there may be some reliability issues to consider as well. The PSP is outstanding, but there may be a price drop in the near future. It seems like you'd benefit by waiting in either case.

To answer another question you posed in the thread: I play my PSP when traveling, but I also play it when I'm at home. The games are compelling, period -- not just compelling if you have nothing else better to do because you're away from home.
