Changes to your Game Library
Some PlayPass games will no longer be playable on OnLive starting May 31st. Keep in mind this is COMPLETELY out of OnLive's control and is because of the planned shutdown of GameSpy's service on the 31st.
OnLive does not want to remove games but this outcome is unavoidable given the circumstances. OnLive will be generously compensating players affected by this (given certain criteria) either by giving 50 percent or 100 percent off codes (again depending on certain criteria) for CloudLift titles of your choice and also a free month of CloudLift. If you did not receive an email regarding this and feel you should have then please feel free to contact support HERE and they will be happy to assist you. Remember, with the new OnLive all purchased games nets you a local Steam copy so this shouldn't be an issue going forward. Here is the full email:
Changes To your Game Library

Due to circumstances beyond our control, some PlayPass games will lose multi-player functionality, or in a few cases will no longer be available, at the end of this month. CloudLift games on our service are not affected. Some PlayPass games on the OnLive Game Service have relied on GameSpy for multiplayer capabilities. As you may have heard, the planned shutdown of GameSpy’s service on May 31 will affect games from a number of publishers and across most major game platforms. Learn More

If a game is losing its multiplayer mode, but is still playable in single-player mode, we will keep it as part of the OnLive Game Service. The games that will no longer be playable on OnLive in any mode are:

Dead Island
F.E.A.R. 3
The Darkness II
London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games
Lord of The Rings: War in The North
Call of Juarez®: The Cartel
Duke Nukem Forever

Since you purchased a full PlayPass for one or more of these referenced games, we would like to offer you a coupon that can be used towards purchasing a new game + 1 Free month of CloudLift Subscription. For each affected PlayPass game which you purchased over 6 months ago, we’ve provided a 100%/50% Off coupon.

4A. SERVICES OVERVIEW
CloudLift:
CLOUDPL_StillImage_768_432.jpg

CloudLift has a monthly fee of $7.95 and allows you to play your purchased Steam games through the OnLive service. When you purchase a game
in the CloudLift section you are purchasing a Steam key! You ARE NOT obligated to subscribe to the CloudLift service if you purchase a game in the CloudLift section; this is
only required if you want to play your Steam games through the Cloud. You can simply purchase the key and play the game locally if you wish. CloudLIft is also NOT LIMITED to
only keys purchased through OnLive. You can buy (for example) Saints Row IV through Amazon or even directly through Steam and still play it on OnLive through the CloudLift service.
The only requirements are that you will have to link your Steam account to your OnLive account (this is to verify ownership) and also be subscribed to the CloudLift service.
Once a game is added to your CloudLift library you will have access to it (along with any DLC purchased) on any device that has the OnLive client. Save data is always synced with
the Steam Cloud every time you exit a game being played through the CloudLift service so you can switch between local and Cloud copies without losing progress. Games on CloudLift
also fully support multiplayer gaming; you are not limited to only people playing Cloud copies! There is no commitment when subscribed to the CloudLift service; cancel at any time!
Any Steam keys bought are yours to keep and your local access to those games are unhindered! Keep in mind that games that appear in the CloudLift section are the ONLY Steam
games that can be played using CloudLift.

Can I demo it from the browser

According to a press release by Onlive this should be possible however a few people have told me they were never able to get it to work. Also (I'm using Windows 8.1) every time I try to access a trial on their site I've given this message:

To play on the OnLive Game Service, please visit this page again on one of the following platforms: Windows 8, 7 or Vista (32 or 64-bit) or XP SP3 (32-bit), Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, or an Android device.

Here's the press release: http://games.onlive.com/corporate/press_releases/1353

EDIT: Receiving conflicting information about this. Will update once I get a concrete answer. It was outlined in an Onlive press release back in June.
EDIT2: A few people have said they were never able to get this to work.
EDIT3: People are saying that the feature was removed although it was functional some time ago.

Did people actually get the universal controller working as a regular controller on the PC? I only ever read it as only working with onlive's desktop program.

Jesus I'd pay big bucks if they made an adapter for the microconsole's controller to be used on PC. Would use it over a 360 pad in a heartbeat

will my old microconsole still work?

maybe ios will come now that they have the controller support in iOS7?

It's my main PC controller! I mostly use x360ce which will automatically set everything up (don't have to map buttons). This works great for every service (Uplay, Steam, etc) I've used except for Origin. With Origin I have to use Xpadder which is a little bit more hassle (have to map buttons for each individual game) but still works great. It's a great controller and I love the fact I can automatically pair with Bluetooth and don't have to attach a dongle.

Yes, the microconsole still and will continue to work perfectly with the service. Getting Apple on board would be great! Hopefully it happens!

Hope can us Europeans import a micro console?

The service is available in the UK and Belgium. You can easily pick one up through online retailers (probably best to go through something like eBay). There is nothing that ties a console to a person and a console can exchange hands without compromising the previous user's account. If you ever sell one though please make sure and erase your account details. If you do happen to buy an import one please keep in mind that you'll need to have an appropriate power supply to power the console for your country. Also keep in mind that they recently removed the microconsole from purchase on their site. According to Onlive's statement regarding this it seems we might be seeing some kind of revised microconsole in the near future.

EDIT: Good point Noise. If you're in an unsupported country then you will not be able to purchase games on the service. Edited my above post to reflect this.

I thought they were dead? Nice to see them again.

But I just checked the game selection, the subscription cost is way too high for that.

The service is available in the UK and Belgium. Not sure if they ship the microconsoles to countries in Europe outside of those two.

Atleast they didnt before, and the stand they gave was that its not recommended as the connection quality is not good enough.

You actually cant even buy Onlive itself or games there if you dont live in supported countries.

I hope they get more servers going and tech improves so that its not limited to 3 countries in the world :D

Does it now work in Germany? :o

edit: Nah... doesn't seem so... "blabla encountered an error during connection"

Oh yes, that's a very valid complaint about the service. They've supposedly been working on this "Onlive 2.0" since September of last year and it is planned to be a complete relaunch. Hopefully the concerns you brought up will be addressed with this relaunch.

Very true! Thanks for pointing that out. Expansion is great! If they're able to do that without compromising themselves financially then I fully support it.

Are the games supported usually running maxed out? I know they're only streaming at 720p, but maybe at Ultra settings with full AA and so on?

Unfortunately it's impossible to tell exactly what the settings are for almost all the games on the service since that menu is usually blocked off. Just from looking/playing them I'd say almost all the games are around mediumish settings. There are a few notable exceptions (i.e. Just Cause 2) that seem to be turned up to high but these are few and far between.

I don't like the new writing style of the name as "Onlive". I always misread it as "Olive" :/

Haha, yes, I can definitely see where that mix up can happen. I feel indifferent towards it right now.

I did a survey on the up coming changes they were asking what do I like more and how much would I pay for stuff.

If they come thru with what was on that survey (Which I cant talk about) its gonna be much better, I cant wait to see it.

I didnt get the ambassador invite, @Enectic did you get the survey?

Yes, I did get that survey as well. I actually just got the $5 gift card from that survey a couple of days ago! Very interesting things on that survey indeed! Sorry you didn't get the ambassador email. It was sent about a month back. I'm not sure what criteria they used for their selection process.

Man Onlive saved me during my first year in college when I had a shitty computer and left my consoles at home. Helped me to keep up on some games. Loved it when I played it. Proved to me that streaming games is truly possible. I upgraded my computer since then, but as next gen kicks in and things get too high level for my PC, I could see myself using Onlive again. Hope this relaunch is successful for them.

The first game I played on there was Deus Ex HR and I loved it. I replayed it on my new PC and I found that there wasn't much difference lag wise. My experience with Onlive definitely gives me faith in Gaikai on PS4 as well. Playing games off the cloud actually works.

That's great to hear! I admit I once scoffed at the idea of Onlive and didn't think much of cloud gaming. I got in when they did the "Spend $25 and get a free Microconsole" promo just to try it out and was blown away. I'm definitely excited about the future of Onlive and cloud gaming in general!

Alright guys acoording to Onlive staff...

We were just informed in the chat by WickedHund that the email includes an Easteregg and something else that we have not caught on to yet (the second one I did). GET SEARCHING FELLAS!

So apparently there are few secrets left in that email. I've been searching but haven't found anything yet!

That's disappointing to hear honestly. Seeing as the streams are 720p I thought it was possible to aim higher, but the infrastructure's costs would probably be too high for them and offering a premium service @Ultra settings maybe it's not feasible?

It's definitely a shame. The big promise of cloud gaming is to run games at the highest possible settings on most any device. Seeing as how they were losing money each month (they were around 30 million dollars in debt when they filed for ABC last year) I don't think they could financially support upgrading their hardware. Additionally Onlive aimed to have all their games run at 60 FPS (the higher frame rate would improve the game responsiveness and reduce judder). I'm hoping with this "relaunch" they've improved their infrastructure. Onlive staff did say a couple of months ago that they were beefing up their staff for the large influx of both new and old users they expect will come once they lift the curtain on the "new" Onlive.

Will this work with Nexus tablets?

Doesn't Android 4.3 fuck up bluetooth controllers?

Hmmmmmm, I can't say for sure. I use it all the time for the Onlive service on my tablet but it's only running 4.2.2. This controller will not work (last I checked) for tablet games outside of the Onlive service however getting it to work from what I've read requires only a simple edit. Not a big fan of phone/tablet games so I never even bothered with it.

Is it me or is the USB connector of the key at a slight angle ? It's almost an optical illusion, but I'm not sure.

Optical illusion :). I just looked at my connector and there's no angle.

I used Onlive for a while on my trusty little Asus Netbook, and during the day it worked amazingly well. It was only my crappy ISP that caused issues with it during the evening.

There was never going to be any other way I could play modern games on my netbook, and for the most part you'd never have guessed you were watching a video stream.

The trouble was/is that a lot of the smaller games I fancied playing were only included in the bundle pack that you pay a monthly fee for, and it was way too expensive just for the odd games I wanted to have a go on. They really need to give an option to pay a one off fee for those smaller games instead of forcing them on you in a bundle.

True! Ideally I wish every game had every purchase option they offer (3 - 5 day PlayPass, Full PlayPass, and/or PlayPack). I'm not sure if they do this solely to curb interest towards the PlayPack or maybe there might be some publisher/license restrictions on how they can offer the game. Hopefully we'll see more games that offer every option though. You bring up a good point too about the PlayPack being a tad to expensive. I would really like to see a $7.99 a month, $59.99 a year option. I'm fairly sure they're reworking their pricing structure with this relaunch so hopefully we'll see a cheaper PlayPack.

I played over 50 hours of DXHR and the DLC on the service. Never had an issue. If the director's cut was available on Onlive I would buy it on a heartbeat.

I feel you man! I put in 25 hours into the game myself on Onlive and it ran great. I've actually been meaning to replay it but haven't gotten around to it.

Will keep an eye on this. iOS support would be great, and if onlive can get some better title selections it could finally live up to the original promise of cloud gaming.

I would LOVE for this to finally land on iOS.

Apple support would definitely be nice. The more devices supported the better! Many people are deeply invested in Apple's ecosystem and prefer not to venture out. Thankfully though Android tablets that meet the minimum spec for Onlive are fairly cheap. If Apple support doesn't come then it wouldn't be a huge investment (under $150) to nab one of these Android tablets. You could even be extremely cheap and nab one of those Chinese made tablets for under $75. If Onlive could up it's library and get recent release the same day as other platforms then that would be great. A point of entry fee of under $100 to play the "next-gen" (PC) versions of games such as Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV while additionally providing free online multiplayer is a tremendous value.

Exciting times indeed! Did anyone else receive the email today? Onlive has been sending things in waves so if you didn't receive one today then there's always the possibility that you'll receive one within the next few days.

The Steam integration would be great for me if more games were supported. I don't have a gamin PC anymore (and don't want one) but I have a pretty huge Steam library from back when I did used to own one. If I could play the majority of those games I'd be on board, but that list is tiny.

Oh yes! I agree, the list is rather small right now. This is just the start though. I'm sure given time the supported games will get much larger.

Neat! I'll give this a try soon. I used OnLinve years ago on my paltry 3Mbps DSL connection over Wi-Fi on my PC/tablet and was surprised at the results. I actually was able to play a few games using my DS3 on PC with some minor artifacting. Excited to try it again, although I still don't think this kind of service is ready for most people. The CloudLift thing is completely insane though, it's a very limited selection so far but damn if it isn't a cool idea. If Valve were able to get on that, well, Steam would be absolutely unrivaled considering you could play your library anywhere, even on portable devices.
