Open Critic now allows you to rate games and see the average rating players have given to a game, Profiles coming soon.

You can now rate games and after 20 ratings a game will show a user rating and you can add a user review, as well as add how many hours you played.

This won't be open to manipulation in the same way that the Metacritic user reviews are, not at all.

Completely worthless unless they force people to link their accounts to Steam/PSN/Xbox/Nintendo in order to verify ownership and hours played in a title being reviewed.

They should aggregate player reviews and only from verifiable review sources (like Steam, where you have to have the game in your library at at least point to leave a review).

Then, apply a weighting system, maybe based on # of reviews, across those different sources.

Leaving user reviews directly on the site leaves it open to the same manipulation tactics that plague MetaCritic, for example.

OpenCritic turning into shit, smh. At least they're still useful as they make it easier with setting up review threads here on GAF.

"OpenCritic is well-known for giving gaming enthusiasts clear, unbiased aggregation of game reviews, proving an invaluable service to the gaming industry as a whole," Fleischman said in the announcement.

"We've got big plans to make it the ultimate social network for gamers, with new, unique features that boost social interaction, community engagement, and library building for our userbase," he continued.

None this shit matters, I learned long time ago to trust my taste when it comes to choosing which I would buy instead of scores and so far it hasn't failed me.

I hate it when third-party sites do this. If they don't have a way to verify purchases, it just makes these so easily manipulated. Both by review bombers and publishers.

Eww.. not having user scores was one of the positive things that separated it from Metacritic.

Yeah, reviews are not super useful when it's not verified purchases which is why Steam review system is so important.
