Been using Opera for well over a decade. (And I spent a bunch of time paying for it, during those few years they were charging!)

The new release seems great. But I'm annoyed that they've put the close-tab button on the right side of the tabs again. Ugh! It should so, so, so, so, so be on the left. Why do they keep switching it back and forth? Anyone know of a setting which allows me to move the close-tab button to the left side of the tabs? (Or maybe there's an extension?)

Middle Mouse Button Click ftw ... just click on it anywhere and it closes.

Only things keeping me from staying with opera are problems with some sites not working fully and ad block plus not being on there (unless there's an extension for opera that blocks flash ads like on youtube or gametrailers).

Built in mouse gestures are literally the only thing keeping me from leaving Opera for Chrome.

Unfortunately this version of Opera has gone final with quite a few bugs still in it. Nothing breaking, but some are a bit annoying.

Still love Opera though, it's the uncontested winner of my personal browser war year after year. There are so many built-in features I love about it, and like many others I just couldn't live without my mouse gestures. (Yes, I've tried many of the mouse gesture extensions available for Fx and Chrome, and none of them can match what Opera does out of the box.)

Opera AdBlock is the best ad blocker for Opera for sure. It might not be quite up to the same level as ABP, but it's pretty great. I'm actually not sure if it also blocks YouTube ads (it might not), but the YouTube AdsFree extension supposedly takes care of that.

Don't you have a middle button on your mouse? much faster to open links to new background tab with that button.
I have a laptop, and my desk is so cluttered I haven't used a mouse in a while, haha. When I do use a mouse I use the middle button.

The one thing stopping me from using any browser besides Chrome is the fact that tabs are not pinned to the very top of the screen. Is there any way to fix this in Opera?

  1. Right click web page
  2. Select "Block Content..."
  3. Profit

Be sure to do that outside of a text box though. The contextual menu item isn't there in that case. Pretty neat little built in feature.

Damn, this is nice. I've been an Opera skeptic for a long time, but this beats the hell out of Firefox for Linux. Fonts look great, the interface is simple, and it's SO FAST! Now I have to find some extensions.

Pretty sure that doesn't work with YouTube ads (the ones that pop up inside the video player)...?

Anyway, I agree that the built-in content blocker is great, and that's also the reason why the Opera AdBlock extension is great - see, this extension uses the built-in content blocker by adding temporary rules to it (though the content blocking API Opera added a while back). It uses a number of different ad block lists (you can set which ones you want to be used - I just use the default Fanboy list, which is pretty great) and automatically updates them every now and then. If it doesn't catch something, you can manually block that one ad using the regular content blocker. The perfect combination.

I'm having a weird issue where I don't get the drop-down arrow for the address bar anymore. Anyone having the same issue?

edit: Got it: opera:config#Show%20Dropdown%20Button%20In%20Addressfield

Gestures are amazing, I don't know why more people don't use Opera?

It's not "cool" like Fx or Chrome. I honestly believe that's the main reason. It's never had that "edgy" status.

Another thing, in the past, might have been the lack of extension support. That's obviously there now, though.

My speed dial faves keep disappearing randomly. Opera pisses me off sometimes.

Do you have Opera Link activated? Sounds like something that could be caused by syncing issues.

I logged into Opera Link and it took me to a site and I saw my speed dial faves. Hopefully it'll sync now.

the opera to phone extension finally works properly with selected text, google maps searches and driving directions! Would recommend all android users to check it out. One less reason to use chrome.
