This is ancient.

Although there is a good article on the future of the technology at Wired, I'll post the link if I find it.

Awesome... if real.

That's what I thought. The guy could have at least opened his mouth or breathed in real deep to show the image was really his skeletal structure.

Its most certainly "real"... but i dont think its what you think it is.

As far as I can tell its just a projector projecting onto the material.

Still cool though.

It's real, but all you have to do is read a little to see that it's not optical cammo in remotely the same sense as in something like Predator or Metal Gear. Light does not pass through it, they just project an image onto the guy's jacket.

Dem + Border are right -- the only thing this invention does is showcase the reflective properties of the coated material. Once you watch the videos of the object displaying everything behind the object minus the person holding the object, you'll come to realize that even if they used nanobots that displayed the rear imagery in the front, there'd be no way to optically store and output data that doesn't exist (from the viewpoint of the camo-ed object).

If you look at the diagram posted before the movie links, you'll see that there is a projector shooting the image onto a mirror that reflects that image back to the "retroreflective" object.
