Outlook or Gmail?

I've used all types of email services throughout my life and I've found Outlook.com by Microsoft to be pretty great.

However some people live and die by Gmail.

What are your thoughts?

Gmail for webmail. eM Client if I have to do something complex. Longstanding hate for Outlook formed way back when I had to support it. What is dead may never die.

Outlook is still a thing?

I know a few people who use Yahoo (Whyyyyyy?) and a few people who use college emails (Eh... I guess?), but I honestly can't say I know a single person who uses Outlook.

Gmail both for personal and work use.
The last place I worked at used outlook and I hated it. It didn't help that they used some old ass version which felt like it came straight out from the 90's

Outlook for business, Gmail for personal. Gmail is simply NOT an enterprise offering in any sense. Outlook is far more robust in all ways for business use cases.

I use(d) Outlook for professional accounts, gmail for personal accounts.

Overall I prefer gmail but they are both good.
Same here.

Email for personal communication feels quite outdated in the age of social media and smart phones.
But for professional stuff, email still makes a lot of sense and Outlook is pretty great for it.

My approach to email is inbox zero. Deal with it and file it.
I feel like I have to tell everyone - especially those bozos who have 5,000 emails living in their inbox.
I guess that makes me a kind of digital vegan.

Outlook or Gmail are fine if you don't care about privacy.

I prefer Gmail to Outlook.

I created a secondary Outlook account and it required my phone number. Even after I've yet to send or receive a single mail, twice my account has been locked (maybe because I use a VPN?). And I'm unable to unlock it with my phone number because, for some reason, it requires a different phone number than what is associated with my account. This Outlook account turned out to be a major headache.

Protonmail. Fuck Outlook or Gmail.

According to https://restoreprivacy.com/secure-email/ Protonmail is bad too

Okay allegations about voluntarily providing such information may be false. But there are several other cons to ProtonMail:
  • ProtonMail does not encrypt email subject lines
  • Strong ties to US research institutions; funded by US investors
  • Utilizes phone number verification
  • May suspend accounts without warning

Outlook is 10x better than Gmail, but I use gmail for person use, since I'm too lazy to get everyone I know to switch over to a personal Outlook email and I don't need all the functions a work email needs.

In Gmail, you can't totally block emails. They go to your bin. In Outlook you can outright block emails from ever touching any inbox, spam folder or bin.

My hotmail account is compromised. It used to be a personal email account 20 years ago. Now it's how I sign up for shit. I just have a filter to throw absolutely everything in the trash.

For my work email, it's a necessity. Google is decades behind on business emails imo.

Show me Google for business emails and I'll show you where a lot of people have modded it to try to behave like Outlook.

Gmail never had issue's with it.

I had a msn account which is now a hotmail account and a outlook account i guess. To much shit changing with those guys.

Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail.com) accounts (not only e-mail, but calendar, contacts, todo, etc.) work like charm with Windows 10 and it's built-in applications like Mail, People, Calendar, MS ToDo, etc. I even prefer them to the actual Outlook application from MS Office, which I use at work. Nowadays I actively avoid everything made by Google.

I use Outlook now because I don't really trust Google anymore. Not that MS is amazing in terms of privacy but...
Also, I use Office and Onedrive so it makes sense to stay in that ecosystem. MS apps integrate much better with MacOS than Google's.

Yeah, Hotmail is now Outlook.
Gmail is free and I've had loads of success with it
Outlook is also free unless you are talking about the one that comes with Office(which Gmail does not even hold a candle to).

Outlook for Important/Legal/Work Matters
Gmail for everything else

People who say ''Business'', I take it you all CEO's..

I am a grown up I pay for my email instead of selling my soul to google.

I use macOS email client and no email on my phone

Outlook's got a lot more options to refine to your own preference, GMail feels like the iOS to Outlook's Android. I use Outlook for both personal and business accounts. Real nice to have multiple email aliases tied to one account as well.
