Seriously. In fact off the top of my head I can't think of a traditional stand-up comedian who has a more sharp, intelligent, and relevant reportoire than Carlin did at his peak (although I can think of a few, like Chris Rock, who have material of comparable quality).

I don't find Carlin too funny and I don't care how smart he is either. I've seen a few of his HBO specials and I could not believe people were laughing at the unfunny shit he was saying. Yah, he's intellectual, but I certainly don't understand what's so funny about wishing death by inferno upon someone's child. It's ridiculous, it's not funny, and it's a kill joy. I'm all for putting a heckler in their place, but their has to be more 'intelligent' ways of doing it.
