It’s been a busy week for new releases with most major titles trying to avoid each other by releasing on different days, or simply launching early in the week in order to get good visibility as the week unfolds.

Sony debut at No1 with ‘Gran Turismo Sport’, launched on Wednesday 18th October and this is a first outing on PS4 – original ‘Gran Turismo’ launched on PS1 back in week 19, 1998 and the last version was ‘Gran Turismo 6’ on PS3 back in week 49, 2013 – ‘GT Sport’ has a better week 1 units than both of these but is nowhere near the series high of 2010’s ‘Gran Turismo 5’ (week 1 was over 3 times higher). EA drop to No2 with ‘FIFA 18’ having held the No1 spot for 3 consecutive weeks, much like last year’s ‘FIFA 17’ which was knocked off No1 by EA’s own ‘Battlefield 1’ in week 42, 2016. The 2 biggest of 4 new releases from Tuesday 17th October debut at No3 and No4. Debuting at No3 we have Ubisoft’s PS4/Xbox One ‘South Park: The Factured but Whole’ which matches week 1 sales units from previous ‘South Park: The Stick of Truth’, released on PS3/360 back in week 10, 2014. Debuting at No4 we have 2K/Take 2’s PS4/Xbox One ‘WWE 2K18’ – sales units are down on last year’s 4-format ‘WWE 2K17’but revenue is actually 5% higher, thanks to the success of the £79.99 Deluxe and £129.99 Collectors Editions. From our midweek chart published on Wednesday 18th (after 24 hours of sales on these 2 titles) it was actually WWE that was ahead of South Park in terms of units, but the Ubisoft title went on to have comparatively higher sales for the rest of the week, due to WWE’s greater percentage Day 1 concentration. Nintendo’s Friday 20th release ‘Fire Emblem Warriors’ on 3DS/Switch debuts at No16 and THQ Nordic’s ‘Elex’ for PS4/Xbox One/PC debuts at No25 (released Tuesday 17th). The final new release within the Top 40 is Sold Out’s PS4/Xbox One ‘Rogue Trooper Redux’ at No37 (also a Tuesday 17th release).

Whales saving WWE lol. Sad to see Elex so low, but I guess it's not the first time when a PC dev struggles to attract the console market.

I'm not really interested in GT Sport as it stands, but I guess they might release a complete edition down the line like they did with GT5, and I will think about picking it up then. I wonder if things might had been different were this a full GT7 with a full offline campaign.

Apparently GT Sport's week one sales was 3x that of Forza's in the UK. 'Most successful launch of any racing game this year'.

Good on GT. Despite the (admittedly pertinent) woes about offline dis-functionality and content, Polyphony set themselves a new target and seemingly nailed it.

Where's the polygon chart when you need it. At this rate the Switch version will outsell the PS4/Xbox versions by 2021 :p

About realistically where you'd expect a non numbered GT to launch although I'm not sure a numbered one would do much better these days. Sure Sony won't have put its full marketing might behind it but GTS doesn't seem to be a slouch here from what I've seen.

Oh and thanks Bruno for all your work.

Pretty good for GT considering its online focus. I'm sure it will stay in the top 10 if bundled like Forza.

It's more about PS4/XBO versions having larger weekly drops in terms of units (like all big selling games have) than Switch version having ''great holds''. It's far more easier to have 3% share from the sales of 80k than from the sales of 800k.

Moving on to next week I think Mario will be no.1. AssCreed will give it a run for its money but the series is past its peak. A good game here may help build the series back up again but it’s had too many misses these past few years for people to just come running back over night.

GT Sport seems to have done much better then Destiny? Thats surely a decent showing for the franchise, given its review and new focus.

Hi Bruno, I never post in the PAL Charts thread but have always looked forward to them every week. Just letting you know that your effort is highly appreciated, and I'm glad that you seem to plan on continuing on doing so. Sales threads are some of my favorite threads here in gaf. Thanks to all sales-GAF as well, I hope most of you would still come back to discuss sales trends and stuff.

On-topic:

Congrats to GTS and PD for topping the charts! Personally love the game even on single player.

I thought about continuing making these threads but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to devote the time they deserve. I could just post every Monday the UK and French charts because it is just a copy/paste and call it a day during the rest of the week. But I think that it is not fair towards this community. The one who is in charge of the sales thread has to be somebody active and contributes to discussion.
