KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians who have been waiting to get an up close and personal look at Zoo Negara’s brand new panda cub can now do so.

The cub, the offspring of giant pandas Xing Xing and Liang Liang, is finally ready for public viewing after being quarantined for three months.

The cub, which has yet to be named, was born on Aug 18, weighing 175 grams. It now weighs 5.6 kg.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the newborn cub has created history as it was born naturally within such a short span of time.

“This is the first time that a panda cub was born naturally within the span of 15 months, without having to undergo artificial insemination,” he said during a visit to Zoo Negara today.
