So get this. A Professor dared to assert that the Bible was not a science textbook (oh those liberal academics) so some mentalfundalist writes a letter to the school paper to call for a boycott of the course because it was "trampling upon his faith."
As a response, another student with a keen sense of wit decides to write a parody letter calling to have the prof. burned at the stake. Rather than getting props for putting that dummy in his place, however, the University Police comes knocking on his door and tells him he'll be charged with a felony for publishing the thing, so the poor kid backs down.

True, but he was the first. You'd expect that Universities by now would roll their eyes at the youthful discovery of satire and irony.

I guess they're scared by the lawyers who constantly sniff at their door.

There's a few valuable lessons to be learned from this. The first: never write or say somethign potentialy dangerous without disclaimer.

It sucks that some people are literal in their approach to everything, but it's better to acknowledge their simple-mindedness and be explicit (subtlety's great when you can get away with it) rather than risking your head.
