PC flight sims - SCRAMBLE!

ok so I want to get a new flight sim for my new (already outdated :lol) PC! My HOTAS got shot up real bad and has been out of commision, so I haven't even installed any of my old games on my new rig.

games I have:

iL2 Sturmovik
Mig Alley
MS Combat flight simulator 2

Has there been any good flight sim releases lately? I mostly like the drop bombs on nazis kind, but am open to fly around and look at pretty scenery kind, as long as it has proper physics.

I still remember playing this (at 5fps :lol ) on my apple ][c

note: I saw the new MS flightsim announcement at the CES keynote, looks pretty good but I want something I can buy now :)

I've played a bunch that have been released in the past years, but honestly I haven't enjoyed one since Strike Commander back in the day. That game was more arcadish than sim, but it had a running story built in. Similar to that of the Ace Combat series.

I also found flying in BF1942 and BF2 more than than most of the recent sims because you could fly over an active battlefield with so many elements in play. In BF1942, you could nail a enemy Tiger dead on and watch your teammates over run the flag they previously could not take. Its pretty neat see the impact your actions have in situations like that. Those two games are way on the arcade side, but you can setup your joystick and have at it.

Other than Lock On as above the only recent ones have really been the Il2k expansion and Pacific Fighters (by Maddox as well), all 3 will form one large install and allow you to use all the available planes...

There's also been recent re-releases of Falcon 4, and Rowans Battle of Britain (now with extra bugs! and graphics you could download for free years ago! - I kid!...A little bit anyway)

There's Strike Fighters/Wings over Vietnam if you fancy Vietnam jets..

Or there's Over Flanders Fields, an excellent WW1 mod for the maligned (unfairly imo) Combat Flight Sim 3

I do need to pick up BF2, but in BF and BF vietnam I didn't really like the planes that much. I was more of a tank/infantry guy :) I don't know about BF2, but the 1st one had problems with a full HOTAS. Of course since mine is broken I could just get a regular joystick.

iL2 is nothing like BF, but it did have a cool option where one person could be the pilot, and one the tailgunner.

It looks like Oleg Maddox (creator of il2) has a new pacific theater game out...

hotness!

Yeah, that's the one I mentioned, Pacific Fighters, get that and Aces for one huge install for all round WW2 goodness...

Grab one of the dynamic campaign generators to make up for the one deficiency though (hopefully to be fixed in his upcoming Battle of Britain sim)...

Il2 Forgotten Battles + Aces Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters FTW.

Don't forget to fetch and install Hyperlobby as all the multiplayer action is there.
