PC games should have a 'console graphics' preset

And actually let you know what settings the console versions run at?

IDK man, sounds problematic.

I suspect Sony has a preset because they don't allow the performance to get that much better than PS5 in the game anyway (I assume this is the case, can you jack it up?)

If I could just select a 'PS5 setting' this wouldn't even be a problem.
Nope, it would be a big problem:

They do, its called medium/low settings.
But there are no lower than lowest settings that often console games have. 🤷‍♂️

Yea I agree. There should be a Switch 1 setting too lol

But makes no sense. Because there's settings that you can turn way up that have zero affect on performance.
Or turn down something like shadows if it's something you don't give a fuck about.
Most people just wanna play their games. Most PC gamers don't even look at frame rates. They launch the game, maybe adjust the resolution, and if it runs good enough, they don't look back at the settings. You'd be shocked at how little the average PC gamer knows about PC gaming.

No need for settings. Just lower DLSS to performance or possibly even ultra performance and you'll still get comparable or better fidelity and performance than the console equivalent.

I don't like presets in general. Always weird stuff that makes me shake my head. Consoles love popin and low quality shadows. I max those things out when I can.

I'm a fan of this idea. All the Youtubers doing console vs PC graphics/GPU framerate benchmarks would rejoice if this were a default option.

But what console would be the default? PS5? PS5 Pro? Series S or X? Switch? Switch 2?

If you're a pc gamer who actually uses presets? Like 1% if pc gamers? Pretty sure every pc gamer might turn a preset on then manually adjust things.
The original HZD too. Sony should have kept doing this.

It's far more common than you think.
Yeah, I'd be willing to bet a good amount possibly even a majority of people simply choose a preset or just don't change anything upon launch.

Just like I can guarantee you that the majority of pc players don't do stuff like go on pcgamingwiki and look for fixes.

Digital Foundry often guesstimate the console equivalent settings, game developers could cut the middle man and just add an option. But that would look bad and sometimes games use "bespoke" settings not available on PC, either lower than low or somewhere between low and middle.

The developers themselves chose those settings for the console.
The "problem" with this is PC as a platform since there are tons of configurations so while I u destined what you are trying to get at the phrase "best bang for your buck" doesn't really work when there isn't any commonality especially on the buck part.

I wouldn't mind games having a console preset as I've definitely in the past looked up the settings for something like FH5 when I was still on a RX580 and no longer had an Xbox.

eeehhh thats not how it works really. consoles have very specific settings matched to their hardware that might not even be in the pc settings range or capabilities depending on your hardware set.

plus most games have an auto config for your system specifically based on your hardware.

Auto configs are better than blanket console settings that mean little against the wide range of pc hardware combinations.

That is not how things work and is not that simple.
The specific combination of low, medium and high settings that each developers select, targeting 60fps on console (PS5 being the lead platform), trying to best present their vision within those constraints, is what the op wants as an additional preset option on PC.

I can see the cheeky edit you made to your original post adding in the "Give me examples part" - Don't take it so seriously.

At the end of the day I do agree that having this option wouldn't hurt, but it does beg the question whether or not a PC is the best option for those who want such an option.

The more popular PC gets the more common this will be. The "bad" thing about PC is that it's not as turn-key as console, anything that makes it more console-like (as in, not requiring any time or attention) will get used...

I asked for just 1 example. No joke.

I've never seen a digital foundry or nxgamer video in which the developer just put everything on low on the current gen console. They always pick and choose different settings.

Riiight I get that. It was a PCMR joke I was making, now its lost the steam because I have to explain it.

Listen, I love my PC just as much as I love my Pro. Does that make things better?

There's a few, but not that many. I remember Control being one of them.

My pride won't let me set it all to low, low, low, off off off etc. I don't want to watch df for it too. If I could just select a 'PS5 setting' this wouldn't even be a problem. Thoughts?
I want this too. Don't show me High settings with good graphics which I have to slowly tweak to Medium to get stable 60-100fps.
Wish my brain would forget what I am missing but it can't.

Nice to have feature but not a deal breaker.
