Okay, so I'm putting together a new PC for a friend (thanks to Element!). And I got all the components inside, everything hooked up etc. But when I try to turn it on, it starts up, all the fans go, you can hear the hdd and everything start up, but then it dies like 5 seconds later. So I can't even get to the bios or POST to see what's up. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Strip it down to just the video card (unless it's onboard video), CPU, and RAM. No expansion cards, no hard drives, no floppy drive, nada.

If you are still getting no post, make sure there isn't a stray screw shorting out your motherboard. Make sure that your risers are only where you actually have screws! (this got me once, it was embarrassing).

Remember to disconnect the power cord before you yank anything (there should be a green LED on the motherboard--do NOT yank shit out while that LED is lit up).

thanks a lot. i gotta try it when i get home then. no pc at home atm so I can't give an actual update. do you mind if I PM you if I have more questions(since you're the only one who responded) haha

sounds like you dont have all the power plugs plugged in. The Asus SLI board had like two or three plugs you have to plug in.

There is the 24 pin ATX plug, 12v 4 pin plug, and then a molex (hard drive power thingy).

The other thing is the RAM. I had a similar problem with my Asus board. If you have two sticks of RAM make sure it is plugged into slot A1 and B1, from the inside out.

Also I'd really advise to update your bios when you get the system up and running.

I think you just fixed it haha and that would cause it to turn off? any problems with ram i've had in any other computer just makes the POST beeps and stays there. I hope you just fixed it. I have this computer for the weekend and I plan on playing hi def HL2

yeah. I was setting up a computer for a friend and just did it slot 1 and slot 2 by habbit and couldn't for the life of me figure out why the thing wouldn't post.

hehe Yeah, I didn't even think about it. That MB is designed pretty odd in some aspects. And I have a question, since I haven't been able to actually get it up and going, I was wondering if you know if I can put my video card in the lower(furthest away from the cpu) pci ex slot. The 7800 is gigantic and it barely fits into the other and makes all the wires extremely messy. Thanks!
