wow, those sales seem crappy. Are PC sales always this low? Is this due to so many people pirating the games?

Huge numbers for Doom 3

I guess PC doesn't matter. The absolute biggest game of the year < 400k, while Madden on PS2 gets 1.6 million for the same month. The rest of those numbers just seems so inconsequential. Will be interesting to see what Sims 2, & HL2 can do.

Thanks for the numbers.

A lot of the top PC games will sell about 20K/week, but will continue to do so for a couple of years. Slow and steady sometimes wins the race.

I don't anyone really knows what the sales are, outside of Blizzard.

No one keeps track of PC software sales, and it wasn't until recently that NPD started with actual stats.

True, but then it must have been the case that Doom 3 cast a long shadow, because these are month totals, correct? And yes, it's defintely true that the SAME TITLES are on the list month after month after month.

If you think the console sales are top heavy, whoa nelly.

Not exactly true. NPD bought PCData, which has been doing weekly sales for a LOOOONG time.

If I'm not mistaken, they only chart the Top Ten per week, not actual sales per title. I hope I'm wrong, though.

Their coverage is just as extensive as console, but their PC reporting software is much less user friendly than their console software. Until recently...

In Sweden, it's like the opposite. Only the biggest consoles games make it on the top ten all formats list. It's usually dominated by PC games.

"Huge numbers for Doom 3"
400k is huge? :|
Now I don't know - but considering certain tracker statistics go into milions - are people still gonna insist that stuff didn't affect sales at all?

I was a bit shocked at how low the PC sales numbers are for stuff like Warcraft 3, but then I realized that PC developers don't have to pay licensing fees to hardware manufacturers, which probably helps.

But then again, most games launch at $39.99, thus removing that advantage. Of course, the top 1% of games can launch at $49.99, but they do drop relatively quickly compared to their console brethren.

What? Doom 3 is hardly the biggest PC game of the year. Perhaps in the top 3, but not the top.

Or in Blizzard's case they launch at $59.99 for the regular version and $79.99 for the collectors edition with the expansion clocking in at $34.99. :p

But PC game prices do plummet much sooner.

I didn't even know we could get PC sales data numbers. Keep the info coming!
