PDZero Online...what am i missing here?

I popped this in last night to get a taste of the supposedly "superb" online mode. Let's just say that I wasn't exactly impressed.....

Even with it's broken online mode I found COD2 to be more fun to play against others.

Now I know I absolutely suck at PD0 at this point (I've played a total of twice), but damn what I did play was frustrating as hell...

Some points:
Positive
• Looks great
• Nice and large environments
• Lots of game play options and weapons

Negative
• Aiming is a bitch... you turn so sloooooow
• Weapons do next to not damage. I got more kills by itting people with the gun.
• Terrible lag and framerate problems.
• Cover feature is pretty much uselss online (as far as I know)

I guess I'm outside the norm, but I feel PDZeros OFFLINE is more of a fun experience than the online.... what am I doing wrong here? What am I missing?

I think I'm going to give this game one last chance before it become trade bait for Fight Night Rd 3.
 
You are missing the part where Darkops is better then Halo 2.

Put some time into that mode, utilize headshots to their full potential, and learn all the secondary weapon functions.

Plus know that disarm is the greatest function in any FPS shooter ever. Gain the ability to disarm and fist box them to death and you are nearly unstoppable in 1 on 1 combat.
 
I think your negative aspects are pretty much off base, though it's still not a game I want to really cheer for.

It sounds as though you need to improve your aiming or sensitivity of the controls. The weapons greatly differ in damage, and the better your aim, the quicker your kill. You can headshot kill in seconds or be completely rinsed by the appropriate weapon at the right time. Not to mention the complexity of secondary abilities of all weapons.

I haven't experienced terrible framerate or lag issues, though I've had lag matches before with bad hosts.

I'm not sure what to say about your cover issues except to say you must be using it wrong.

Again, I hate the single player, but the online is solid fun with a ton of options. You do have to use a modicum of strategy or you will die often and quickly.

Play with those of us who play it a lot and you might change your mind. Some truly enjoy this game while others don't. Some gravitate towrds it faster than others. And some just can't get past their hate for this game and have to troll any thread about PDZ to remind everyone how much they hate the game. To each his own.
 
My problem with this game is that the controls are just straight up broken, it toally kills the game for me. I don't care how good the modes are, if I don't like the aiming/shooting aspect I'm not going to like the game.

COD2 is far better in this respect, and even though the online implementation leaves a lot to be desired, the actual gameplay is much more fun. I've had lots of intense battles in COD2, PDZ seems so weak in comparison.

Totally agree with you Outcast, I guess we are in the minority here.

I'm kinda torn on it.

The biggest irritant for me is the weapons do so little damage. I can unload a clip into a guy and it they keep coming. This was one a match with HEAVY weapons.

I could always go the "mad bomber" route like I used to back in the N64 days. I became an expert in Grenade/grenade launcher banking and prox mines. Needless to say with me playing you thought twice about going through a door.
 
just becuase your bad/inexperienced, doesnt mean its bad.

Its gets some getting used to, especially enemy damage, but once you do PDZ comes into its own.

I've been playing it regulary since launch with usual GAF PDZ crew. I prefer Darkops to HAlo2 online mode
 
I'm fucking sick of hearing people cry about broken controls. DON'T USE THE FUCKING DEFAULT CONTROLS! THEY SUCK! CHANGE THE OPTIONS! I've never used default controls in any pc or console FPS and have expected to excel at the game. JESUS HERBERT CHRIST I'M GOING TO GO INSANE IF HEAR THIS ONE MORE TIME. FUCKING A!

Oh, and taking cover works fucking excellent in multiplayer. Yeah, you can't see who is going to come up behind you, but that is the price you pay for being able to see around a corner with no consequence and getting the first shots off. It works especially well when camping in your base :)

And weapons don't do damage? What weapons are you using? The only underpowered weapon in the game is probably the AK47. The Super Dragon, Magsec, and Viblade are way overpowered to the point they need to be turned off in mp games imo. The Fac, RCP, Shotgun, CMP, UGL (omgwtf close range damage), Mines, Hawk, Falcon, Revolver etc all do excellent damage.

Really, if you can't do good damage in this game you're just not hitting your target. No sissy Halo2 auto-aim here. Use custom control settings, and then if you still suck... Not much else that can be done besides practice.

p.s. Dark-Ops Eradication is the best mp mode. All Dark-Ops modes are fun though. DM sucks balls.

Trade it in before the value drops to shit.

Also, in reply to the above poster, changing the controls doesn't help very much. Believe me, I've tried everything to get some sort of enjoyment out of this POS.
 
The aiming/shooting is really broken. It's not just you. There's a ridiculous control delay in place that I absolutely hate. Press right on the joystick to aim right, it takes a frigging half-second the for reticle to start moving. The response time is absolutely ridiculous.

Going back to Halo 2 right after PDZ makes this even more obvious. Halo 2's controls are tight and responsive. There is no delay whatsoever.

Also, the aiming reticles in PDZ are atrociously small. Hello Rare?! This is a controller we're playing with, not a mouse! There's no way in hell you'll be as precise with a controller! That's why Halo 2 or FarCry Instincts have huge reticles with an insane amount of aim-assist to compensate for it!

This is because you have the fast look on. If you barely press it it goes ridiculously slow. The more you press the faster it goes. Press too hard and it goes too freaking fast. I couldn't get used to this shit no matter what my sensitivity settings were. It sucks. Turn it off. And also turn on independent X/Y sensitivity, which is stupidly default to off. You want your X faster, and your Y really slow.

Going back to Halo 2 right after PDZ makes this even more obvious. Halo 2's controls are tight and responsive. There is no delay whatsoever.

With HEAVY weapons like the Super Dragon it shouldn't take entire clips to ring someone down. Just a minor gripe.

Maybe I just have to play a game with some decent player to get a feel for this. I guess you could call it a learning curve.

It doesn't.... Add to that the Super Dragon's secondary fire is ridiculously overpowered. Might want to use a different gun if you want to try to get this point across.
 
YEah, Super Dragon pretty much clears out areas pretty easily. Which is why i ban the weapon in our matches

I'm not talking about the SPEED at which the reticle moves. I'm talking about the RESPONSE TIME to joystick presses. And there is no option to fix that. No matter what setting I tried, the game always had a ridiculous control delay. Try it for yourself. Just stand still, and quickly do left, right, left, etc. on the joystick. Notice how the cursor on screen is off-sync with your movements. Then go ahead in try it in Halo 2. Notice how much quicker the game responds.

Are you playing on a HDTV? I swear the aiming reticle is insanely small compared to Halo 2's. Can someone please get me comparative screenshots of the pistol reticle in Halo 2 and the pistol reticle in PDZ?

Want to play some 1 on 1 then? You can use default controls. I'll use my custom controls. Lets see if I suck as bad as you at this POS game. If changing the controls doesn't help we should be on very even ground.
 
PDZ is borked, Shoe was right about the game, lame single player, decent multiplayer, once GRAW comes out most will forget about PDZ, hopefully...

Havent played PDZ in a long while, and dont plan on it either; it is being put down for GR:AW.

Yeah, good games. I played great on Old Town... Then we switch to desert and I was getting owned :( WHAT HAPPENED?

I usually go out with friends on Thursday night. By the time I get back everyone will probably be asleep. I'll be playing until about 5pm pst if you guys are around that early though.

Well my experience is completely anecdotal....
I'm going to chalk it up to online weirdness. I fired a grenade at someone and direct hit them and just the armor fried. He was still gunning away like nothing happened.

I had asked elsewhere if damage ratio is able to be set by the host.... if it is maybe that was part of the problem.

Nice way to look at things. Have fun getting owned by the non-retards, who don't refuse to set custom controls, in every console and pc fps.

Grenades aren't an instant kill like mines. But you can dual wield grenades with a pistol. Hit with a grenade and a few pistol shots will drop them fast.

I'm not saying you aren't good, and I'm sure you've adjusted well to the changes you've made to the controls. I'm saying the game is a POS, and no matter how much I tinker with it, it's still a POS. In other words, it's not fun, not enjoyable, and a waste of my money and time. The point is I gave the game some time to grow on me, it didn't. I tinkered with the sensitivity/aiming shit in hopes it'd make it more fun, it didn't. I tried getting into the online mode to find fun, I didn't.
 
I really, really tried to give PD0 Online a chance. I do think there are some great features, and it's a fully robust online game, but for some reason it just doesn't do it right - for me at least. I know everyone's split on it, and I'm not going to throw random hate it's way, but I seriously tried to give it a shot, and it failed.

I still think it's fun in small doses to goof off with (like TimeSplitters), but the way it controls (and yes I did spend lots of time adjusting the control settings) completely kills my desire to play it competitively. When you're playing a FPS you shouldn't have to think about or wrestle with the control scheme one bit - it should be transparent and you should adapt well to it.

I can't seem to get rid of the game for some reason though. I keep expecting some magical moment to hit me and I realize what a fool I've been for missing out on such a great experience, but every time I boot it up I'm reminded what a clunky experience it is.

I still don't get this at all. Maybe be a little more clear about what you disliked about the control scheme? Minus the sensitivity issues that can be fixed by spending 20 seconds in the options menu.



My theory is people just can't cope with the lack of auto aim in PDZ. Halo 2 has turned everyone into little girls that expect free sniper kills and headshots. It's too bad really.

Children are first priority. We need to designate a "bowling night" day in which I have it pre-planned that on X day I will need the 360 at 8pm to meet up with the GAF pack.

this game rocks as far as im concerned , and im someone whos coming from a largely pc background playing games like quake 3/4 ,bf2 ,cod2 etc.i like eradication which plays like counter strike , which is strange cos i hate cs with a passion.i really like the fact its hard to aim , u know it actually takes sum skill to hit someone rather than the auto aim kickin in and doing the hard part for you.

the dragon and viblade are stupid though and should either removed by the host or toned down damage wise in an update , it does need more maps though , hoping for some free downloadable content to be available soon :)

I've had my 360 with PDZ for a few weeks now and have put many hours into it. It's a lot of fun online with all of the different modes. The weapons are the best part of the game; an insane amount all with 2nd and some with 3rd functions (crazy). I've never played a game with that much variety. I hated it at first because I was so bad at it (still am, just not as much). Then I got used to the steep learning curve and started to appreciate the game more.

With that said, I'm starting to get burned out with the game and am pretty much using it as a timekiller until next month. I think I'm going to trade it in in a day or two so I can still get around 25 bucks.

It has nothing to do with skill. PD0 isn't a game that separates the hardcore elitists from the newb mashing retards, it's just simply perceived as "ok" from a lot of us who have spent countless hours in other FPS, on both the console and PC. Being an "ok" FPS isn't enough to hold some people's interest in a market already drowning in FPS's. It's simply a stop-gap launch title until something better comes along.

Like I said before though, it's fun in small doses and it does have a lot of interesting ideas and modes. I feel like I should like it more, but I don't.

Who said it had to be like Halo 2? The people who constantly troll PDZ threads because they have nothing else better to do.

And I don't think CoD2 is shitty... My problem with CoD2 is that it's another freaking WWII shooter, and the online play sucks balls on 360. I'll eventually borrow it from a friend to go through single player though. No way I'm dropping $60 on a FPS I'll never touch again after that.

The game is just not good. SP is terrible and MP is a little better however, it is still just average. COD2 is much better despite its terrible online features.
 
I had fun with this for a rental, but it went back to Gamefly today. The multiplayer is pretty fun, the single player is FRUSTRATING, and GRAW will own me come March. I have no time for PDZ starting next month, but it wasn't as bad as many here make it out to be.

Weapons and online play were pretty good. Better than I thought it would be after all the reviews I've read.

then every FPS except Turok 1/2/3/RW sucks

as by default they either have aiming on the right stick or have a hybrid move/strafe style as default...

not to mention that every fps's default aim/turn ratio is way too slow...
