Penny-Arcade interview with Reggie, check out this PSP quote

WHO DEY!?
I did a search and did not see anything about this. It was posted on Wednesday:

Have you had a chance to try out the Playstation Portable? What do you think?

I have tried out the PSP. My battery lasted all of two and a half hours, so on an international flight I was a little disappointed. What I'll say about the PSP is that yes the screen is beautiful. I think at $250 it's pretty expensive. I think at games that are between $40-$50, that's pretty expensive too. I think that the multimedia play - meaning, the music downloads and the movies - I don't think they're fully fleshed out yet.

(laughs) That's the persona you've built. You know, I read a quote from a gaming site that said, "You'd better be careful what you say around Reggie because otherwise he's going to bitchslap you and take your name." I'm a very aggressive person and a very competitive person, but I don't go around doing that.
:lol :lol :lol

Try charging it next time, jackmeat

Hadn't seen this interview before, some good stuff in there.

Are these steps online a shift for the company, going forward?

Absolutely. Make no mistake, Nintendo is absolutely embracing the concept of wireless online play. We're going to do it in a way that truly provides the gamer an enriching experience. We're going to put our full development efforts behind it across all our key franchises, and we're creating the tools for the developer to do it as well. So versus the mentality of one online game for the Gamecube, I'd call that a pretty significant paradigm shift.

Hopefully there will be online Nintendo games on Rev right from the start :)

Also, this was reassuring:

I think in fairness to the Nintendo fan out there they've said "what's new? What's coming on DS?" Well there's a lot coming, and I think it's just taken a little while for all the developers to wrap their arms around it, but there are some fantastic titles coming.

I'm hoping there'll be a decent number of online DS games at E3, maybe something Square related?

Is there actually any way to drain the PSP that quickly? Maybe somehow watching a movie that's impossibly using wi-fi at the same time? tee hee :D

OMG HE WAS USING WI-FI ON THE INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT? REGGIE AM TERRORIST!!!

With fully charger battery, I don't think so.

You can't use the wifi on an international air flight, btw. so he obviously wasn't 'testing' it that way.

wow, a nintendo rep claims low battery life for psp... shock and awe...

seriously, you expect him to say "yeah it lasted 5 hours and it totally kicked my ass!"?

It'd have been nice to hear that he was playing some non-exclusive third party games. Maybe be a little more inclusive of developers that aren't just making Nintendo games? A bit of tunnel vision, methinks.

:lol That's hilarious.

"Yeah, I actually did get to try a PSP, and holy living fuck, does it beat the shit out of the DS. I think I speak for all of Nintendo when I say, 'Jesus motherfuck, Sony has taken our names once again.'"

By the way of much time does the PSP handle?

Are you asking how much batterylife the PSP actually has?

Well, depends on the game. But you can always expect a solid 4 hours in the worst case scenario wiFi-ing with the intensive games like Ridge Racers. At best, you're going to get 6+ hours with things like lumines.

Well 4 hours, isnt bad, but i guess he does have a point....compared to GBA/DS its not much even considering the difference of power obviously...

Don't UMD movies use the battery up even faster? Maybe his love for Spiderman 2 was just too much for the psp to handle.

But the question is would you rather have a 4 hour blowjob, or a 9 hour kick in the face?

Pfft, his SP had enough juice to last the entire trip and still had enough left to give him a blowjob on the flight back. IT'S THAT GOOD.

It'd be amusing to have a picture of Reggie using his PSP, making his trademark upset monkey face as it continues to work after three hours.

"Um, yeah, well, if I twist it really hard it shoots out the discLOLLAME CONNECTIVITYROXAMIRITE..."

Actually, UMD movies have an even longer battery life average than games (5-6 hours vs. 4-6 hours).

So people actually value Reggie's opinions? I mean he's only been proven wrong about his ENTIRE E3 speech ahah. His credibility rating on anything can't get much lower.

Dont worry Im sure J Allard and his HDTV comments are going to be proven wrong too.... :lol

Bzzt. Movies off the memory stick are longer than games. Movies off the UMD drive are shorter.

That's what I thought I heard before launch. UMD movies are the lower extreme compared to audio off the solid state at the other end. Anyone been foolish enough to buy a umd movie yet? I assume that at least a few are out in japan already.

5 hrs is still several hours less than what the DS battery life is supposed to offer, so what would harm have been in being a little less disingenuous about the battery life?

Well, PSP's battery life is roughly half that of the DS. At 2.5 hours, that would reduce that to a quarter of the DS battery life. If he were to then move in the opposite direction when estimating the DS battery life, well, things would seem even worse...

What the fuck are you talkin' about, cracker? Of COURSE movies off the memory stick last longer than games. The actual UMD movies, however, also have an average life of more than games - 5 to 6 hours vs. 4 to 6.

Reggie's right, handheld games that are 40 to 50 bucks are too expensive. Oh wait, how much do the DS games go for these days :P.

Some DS games go for $40 at places like Coconuts that charge $20 for a CD. The most I've paid is $30 and the most I've seen them go for at decent shops is $35. To act like this isn't a big difference from $50 is pretty ridiculous considering how worked up people get over Sony's games on PS2 being $40 compared to other companies' games at $50.

In addition to this, he's a PR guy. What else should be said? International flights are long and I'm sure how much time he played the thing wasn't exactly paid attention to. The main idea here is that he thought the battery life was short, regardless of how much he exaggerated it.

Go to any Best Buy or Target or EBX. You'll find several DS games at 39.99 or more. Like Zoo Keeper :(... I want it but I won't pay 40 bucks for that.

Zoo Keeper is $34.99 at the Best Buy I go to. It's the only reason I've not bothered to buy it yet. I don't know about any newer games... the last time I went I just picked up Touch for $35 and left lol.

That would have made for an excellent snapshot. Reggie on the flight playing a PSP.

Fanboys am cry for real!

...not that I believe that he played one on a flight...

You lost me.

First off, one of my oldest kids is in college, and my other two children live in Florida, so I don't play games with them on a day to day basis. But I recently went into a Gamestop and bought Resident Evil 4 and have been playing that with one of my children.

Reggie plays Resident Evil 4 with his kids! He is SUCH a badass!

There seems to be only a 10 dollar difference between DS/PSP games.

Most PSP games are $39.99. The only ones that aren't are Dynasty Warriors (Grr!) and the EA/Activision games. EA/Activision games retail for $39.99 on DS.

That didn't seem to stop him from giving an exact number for the battery life.

I like how he totally side-stepped the fact that the PSP totally destroys the DS from a graphical and audio point of view.

I gotta clarify...of course, he's not going to allude to it...what I find funny is that he CAN'T bring those things up at all, since he knows it'll make his own product look bad. :lol
