PGR3 - WOW - New Screens

ya.... and Halo 2 sold more than Halo, even though Halo was a launch title..............

the "Because it was a launch game" argument doesn't really work, IMO..

.. I think Shogmaster's argument may be better, "Half the frame rate, half the sale!" :lol :D

Actually I think his point was it was a launch title so it sold well because it was a launch title. Then people played the game and found it to be so so...that's why the 2nd version did not sell as well. The first game had launch momentum. Halo 1 was a good game therefore it did better on the subsequent release.

i would never say the pgr series is so-so, but i agree. pgr1 had inflated sales due to being a launch title. i'm sure pgr3 will do at least as well being a launch title on 360 too.

Aside from being a launch title, it was also pretty much the only game of its kind on the system for a while. (Maybe that was what was meant, but I didn't see it spelled out). PGR2 had way more competition.

Hmm.. How come in that post they link to "last week's image" and point to

nyshotnew.jpg

Thats not last week's image. Last week's image was:

nyshot.jpg

which looked considerably better

edit:

looks like they explained that on their forum:

As Alan said, I think something has been played with. The artists have an 'art viewer' version on the 360 with the option to turn off the proper in-game effects such as lighting, etc. and view lower res textures so that they can work more efficiently. With literally hundreds of thousands of polygons in a small area, and potentially the whole city loaded in, this is the easiest way to work.

I'll get Ben to check it out tomorrow and find out why this appears to be a different version. I think I'd assume it was simply that it was taken from an artist's 'debug' build rather than the proper in-game version with the in-game lighting/textures as you saw last week. But seeing as Ben organised the shot, he can probably answer you better.

Stubbette

PS. It looks like the first one in-game, believe me! I actually mistook it for a real video earlier today, and I'm used to seeing the game every day!!! Shocked

So which is which?

Debug-mode vs game-mode

The plot thickens...

Edit: Wait, the first one as in sangreal's first one or Bizarre's first one? I'm confused by this strange wording.

well on that big building to the left, one side is completely missing the brick texture in the larger pic... odd? =p

and the bump map for the left building (windows) is backwards. It makes the windows all fucked looking.

i say the first one we got was the proper one considering the bump map was proper and the texture is actually there

Yes. But also because PGR doesn`t have the name recognition of other racers which is also why PGR2 did badly I believe. Will be interesting too see what happens with PGR3 if NFS Most Wanted is a launch title also. NFSU 2 outsold PGR2 by a huge margin even on Xbox.
Could be tough for Bizarre Creations.

One side of the building is rendered (ie concrete on brick) the other is plain brick.

ahh .. I see

what you say makes sense, IMO :)

Man, why does one of the impressive launch titles have to be the one I'm least interested in! I don't know why I just can't get into this series. It's an arcade racer, but in many aspects it takes itself seriously. I like sim racing and arcade racing like BO3, but this game falls somewhere in between the genres.

I'm with you. My hope lies in that older PGR3 shots really weren't impressive so hopefully other games will show a similar jump in quality.

I hope Microsoft markets the hell out of this game and doesn't just concentrate on PD0, this series deserves success and continued development after PGR3.
