A couple months ago was playing the Phantom 2040 game for Genesis, and this week I rewatched Aeon Flux. It occurred to me that the designs from Phantom 2040 look a lot like Peter Chung's work, and sure enough, he designed the characters.
I don't know why this property wasn't more popular. It was a pretty interesting reboot of a super old school comic book hero, they gave him cool weapons and gadgets and set the whole thing in a dystopian corporate controlled world on the brink of collapse instead of a jungle, it had cool unique artwork and some decent names doing VO (Margot Kidder, Leah Remini, Ron Perlman, Mark Hamill, Paul Williams) The game was pretty fun too and had a ton of different endings. I would kill for a 3D take on the 2040 universe with grappling around the city, hoverbikes and futuristic Mustangs
I think maybe the cheesy Billy Zane theatrical version coloured people's opinions of the character? It's sort of a gaudy costume but for some reason I always really liked it.
