Phoenix Wright™ (is this game RARE now?)

well my big bro bought me a DS today instead of payin me the $200 that he owed me and i've been searching for Phoenix Wright™ online and no place seems to have. Ebay and Amazon bot have it going for $40 or more. Is this game Rare or not? i don't want to miss out on this game and i won't anything to play till Ouendan gets here next week (i hope).

Well, I have been hearing there will be a sequel, but I haven't heard a release date for it. And the there's that chance the sequel won't be as good as the original. I dunno, this whole rarity thing is a shame. What the hell is with this limited run crap?

Call around. Much easier than driving all over the place on wild goose chases. Pay special attention to specialty stores, and particularly Gamecrazy or Gamerush.

How did you not know this?

Anyway, I picked it up two weeks ago at GameStop, brand new. So, look around.

Oh, and your brother still owes you 70 bucks.

I thought this game was a hit so i never figure that it would be on a limited run. Meh, the DS just makes it up for the rest of the money that he owes me. but yea i get a look around once i get off work. =_(

Make your bro buy it with the $60 he saved from buying a DS rather than giving $200.

I can't believe the bullshit they're pulling with these limited run games. Phoenix Wright was the first, now I'm hearing Lost in Blue,Castlevania and Trauma Center are also no longer being printed. What the fuck, guys?

Mind you, I've got Castlevania and had no interest in Lost in Blue, but I wanted Phoenix Wright and might want Trauma Center sometime.

Why are game companies so bad at meeting consumer demand? They don't gain anything when a game becomes "rare."

Agreed.

They can easily lose a lot by overproducing a niche title.

More than they do by underestimating consumer demand and denying would-be cutomers the opportunity to buy the game? Interesting.

What about Castlevania DS? Is that game rare now?

i think so. my friend told me that when he got his. His g/f who is an gamestop manager told him that they won't get any copies unless there is a reprint.

I plan to pick it up after my exams.

> 100K produced means it's not rare... but then again, Mario Advance 2 sold 2.7 million or something like that and still holds its value...

I'm not saying I agree with them, I'm explaining why they do what they do. There is no magical equation that tells you how many copies you should produce to ensure maximum profits. I don't know why you made this post.

My Toys R Us has at least 40 copies of Trace Memory. I'm sure its producer would rather have sold a maximum 5 than have to take a loss on 35.

Exactly.. in a market so saturated that a new release can sell less than 500 copies in its opening month, what can they do? Better marketing would help, but it isn't a guarantee.

I realize that from the companies perspective they would rather not have inventory sitting on store shelves but my point is that they should do a better job of meeting demand in the first place. The fact that companies like Games Quest Direct exist suggests that some game companies aren't doing a good job of estimating consumer demand for their products. That's all I'm saying.

If you were just saying that companies should do better to care for the gamers, I'd have agreed with you. But you were doing more than that. You were trying to state a theory about how a corporation can best make profit, and make me look like an idiot.

I'm not sure they can always "do a better job of meeting demand." What of Trace Memory wound up being the surprisingly appealing game, and Phoenix Wright didn't take? Then all 40 copies of Trace Memory would disappear from my TRU, and there would be a pile of Phoenix Wright games sitting there for months. Meanwhile, people would be complaining that Trace Memory was "undershipped."

I think the real problem is that reprints are too difficult to pull off, not that developers can do a better job at predicting what games will be sleeper hits and what games will be bombs. No one will ever be able to predict that.

Oh, also, you can blame your retail sales reps for choosing the wrong games to buy. A local EB has multiple copies of Elf Bowling, that Whack a Mole thing, and a couple of other shit titles, but no copies of The Sims 2 or Puyo Pop. Who decided to order those games instead of those other games? Producers can't produce if the retail outlets aren't placing the orders.

In closing, you're looking at things too simplistically. This is a very complex situation.

I don't want to have this discussion if you think that's what I'm trying to do. I never intended this to become personal but apparently you took it that way. I apologize for that. I'm going to stop replying to this thread.

I always find it odd how certain games are "rare" in certain areas, but not in others.

I can tell you that right now in my store we have three copies of PW shrink-wrapped and one that is opened to use as a display box, but still technically new.

I got lucky at the end of December and found a copy of PW at a GameRush (had never been to one before). It was the last copy they had, and I couldn't find it anywhere else. Everywhere I go has multiple copies of Trauma Center though.

And I was hoping to pick up Lost in Blue in a few months once it was under $20, but I guess not.

It's out in Europe soon, just buy a euro copy.

It's been out for a while in the Netherlands.

www.dimplus.nl has it for 35 euros + shipping (or you can pick it up at their store) I haven't seen it in a single other shop though. Maybe they imported a bunch or something. I don't think it's officially Euro released though.

It better be a good game, the hype for it on this board is pretty noticable.

I've been convincing people to buy this game for the past month or so, and none of them have had any trouble finding it. Iowa City area.

It is true that certain games are extremely easy to find in specific areas, for whatever reason. I've not seen a single copy of Shining Soul 2 in my area, yet a friend from the south Chicago suburbs grabbed two copies (one for me, thankfully!). Same deal with Ninja Five-O: I can't find it anywhere here or in most locations, yet I saw two used copies while visiting Milwaukee.

Perhaps we could organize some sort of network on GAF to relieve each other of eBay bullshit? Nah...

Phoenix Wright shouldn't be too rare, its going to be released in EU soon so it there should/will be a lot of companies floating around. Maybe more expensive nevertheless though.

Just picked up Phoenix Wright new at my local Gamestop yesterday for $30. If you don't have that option or they are all sold out you might try buy.com, they have it as being in but on order.

awesome i bought all three! ... don't hate me. :lol

I'm quite pissed at myself...had an opportunity to pick this up for $25 CDN before Christmas but knew that my mother would be none too pleased with me purchasing a DS game when I was getting 5 for Christmas ($15 games FTW).

Now, Amazon.ca has a "Item not Available" disclaimer. Grrr.

well i just got it from my local EB games brand new and they said that they just got a shipment of 5 last week. So i guess the whole distribution situation is totally messed up.

Perhaps a second print has been made?

When I was there the other day I asked for them to check the computer and they said that it came up as discontinued. I don't know if the girl was BSn me tho.

I haven't seen it in stores since before the holidays. It's a shame it seems to be so rare because it's a really great game.

Eh...the game is alright, I guess. It's nothing awesome, awesome, but solid. Not really a game, more of a story. I would say interactive story, but interactive would be an overstatement....like many point and click style games, there's no real conseqeunce for making bad decisions most of the time (during court sessions, you do have 'lives' - but they seem nearly random, because the choices you present are not necessarily logical, atleast from the given information).

Waht really saves it is the story and dialogue, which I think is fantastic. It's smart, witty, and seems really fitting. Genuinely entertaining. It starts off mediocre, but really picks up. I'm on chapter 4 (out of 5), but it seems to have lasted for a bit. I've taken a bit of a break from it, but will get back into it at somestage.

I find myself in the opposite situation - it has become bothersome to investigate places and really pretty boring the further I get into it.

Although, at first, I was worried about the length...but daaaamn, these cases take a long time!

I was lucky enough to stumble upon a used copy for twenty today, after having looked for it since December ended. I'm enjoying it so far, but I hope it gets more involved. The first case was pretty easy and straightforward.

Well, in my opinion, it never gets more involved - you still always feel like you're just pressing A to read the next part. It's just pretty neat to read.
