Physical Releases - News & Discussion Corner |OT| Physical Games Are Dead, Long Live Physical Games

I now own the entire Xenoblade series physically on one platform. There are so many series available like this now, here are just a few I own, between Switch 1/2 and PS4/5:

Pikmin
Final Fantasy
3D Mario
Metal Gear Solid (soon to be)
Soulsborne
Kingdom Hearts
Uncharted

Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania Edition for the Nintendo Switch.

Some new Switch games added to the collection. Super happy about Tunic. I thought it was a regular standard edtiion, you know only the box and cartridge since it cost only 40$, but it´s actually some sort of special edition, because it came with a instruction manual, stickers, a beautiful map, a miniposter and some other goodies. Very neat package I must say.

I must grab some Ys game finally and give it a shot.

Was planning on giving Hell is Us and Lost Soul Aside a shot once they went on a deep discount, and luckily I spotted them on clearance at my local retailer for €15 and €10 respectively, so I grabbed them. I also snagged Until Dawn for PS5 from the same sale for €12.

Lucky you.

These fuckers on ebay somehow got 20+ copies to sell at double or more the original price....meanwhile my copy disappeared in transit. Some grade A fuckery going on...congrats again. Capcom really screwed this one up imo.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you get yours soon 🙏

Visited my local toy store and the second hand gaming section and got extremely lucky. Been searching for a physical copy of Deadly Premonition for what feels like an eternity. I thought they were extinct and that I would never find one. But finally my prayers have been answered 🙏

Just snagged one of the last PS4 copies of Atomfall from my local retailer on my way home from grocery shopping. They had the PS5 version in stock too, but it was double the price so I went with the cheaper option as the upgrade is free anyway.

A few new Kemco RPG Selection games arrived today from Japan! I was looking for 9, 10, and 11 last year when I was there but only was able to find 10. They just released 12. Getting hard to photograph now that there are a dozen of them!

Just a question. Are you buying to collect or buying to play?

A bit of both. I'm probably not going to get through 48 RPGs from this series, but there is a game or two from each collection that I'm very interested in playing. These are also about $25 each and the digital versions of these games are usually $10-15 each. Yes it'd be cheaper to just buy the ones I'm interested in, I suppose, but I enjoy having the physical cartridges.

Reason asking is(and not directed at you). But collectors have really become a problem, when buying to never open it deprives someone who actually wants to play it. Same is happening to the vinyl market.

I'm definitely guilty of not getting to all the games I've purchased, though with the Switch 2 games being $70-80 and mostly Game Key Cards, my purchases have slowed down pretty considerably. I've also been playing more Switch 1 games than Switch 2, so I suspect in a few years I'll have worked through a fair number of the games that are still sitting on my shelf unopened.

Preordered RE9 Deluxe on Amazon literally the day it was made available. Amazon let me down and failed to honor.
Anyway- got the standard amazon one.

It's up.

As usual, Superdeluxe > LRG.

¥9,980 ($63) for their deluxe.

Too lazy to post a pic of mine, but I've got mine for Switch 2.
Capcom had the nerve to warn people it wouldn't be available past March 31st knowing damn well the thing sold out almost immediately, as they didn't supply nearly enough as they should have.

Basically if you didn't preorder you had very little chance of getting a copy that wasn't from the 2nd hand market, at extremely marked up prices.

I wish they had released that package on real physical carts, game on the cart. I would have been all over that so much. I was excited about the prospect of owning all the modern re remakes on physical cart but now I know that's not going to happen.

Pretty much all of my dreams about a future physical Switch 2 library is in the toilet now.

Yea, if they could have fit the entire trilogy (i.e. 7-9) on a single Switch 2 60GB card that would have been amazing. They could have charged $99.99 and it still would have sold out instantly.

Unfortunately I don't think they could have fit every game on a single card and they instead opted to dedicate a single (game key) card per game. In a way that makes 7 and 8 that much more valuable as the generation pack is literally the ONLY way you can get those games "physically" on Switch 2.

I didn't even need them on one cart - I'd be fine with one cart per game. Be happy to pay the premium. 😔

Just snagged Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which means my Yakuza collection for PS4/PS5 is almost complete. I'm only missing Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, which I'll grab later on sale. And yep, Like a Dragon Gaiden is already in the collection too.

VGP had it on stock today for like 15 or 30 minutes.

All the games are in English if you're playing them on an English language system. It looks like these are getting released in the US now which is great, I suspect they're the exact same as the Japan and Asian releases.

For those of you out there like me who have been waiting on your physical copy of Chained Echoes since 2022:

I hope you are all doing fine. I have new information regarding the physical copies. It's been a bit over 2 years since the physical copies were supposed to be released by First Press Games and so far in 2026 nothing has arrived except the regular Playstation 4 edition. Because of that I had to make a decision:

I am terminating my business relationship with FPG and I am preparing a lawsuit.

This decision wasn't easy and came after careful consideration. Please understand that for legal reasons I can not go into further details.

Sadly refunds / replacements are only being given to people who got the physical edition as part of the Kickstarter campaign, not poor schlubs like me who bought it directly from First Press Games. Guess I'm just out the $75.

This is so fucked.

The fuck? Is this even legal??

Something told me not to pull the trigger on ordering this. It was just taking WAY too long and everything started seeming very sketchy once communications dried up.

I'd be hella pissed if I paid for something and didn't get it, or my money back.

Added some new games to the Switch collection.

Beyond Good and Evil I owned on the Gamecube so I´m very happy to have a physical copy of it yet again, since I don´t have the GC anymore. Great game. A timeless classic.

Fatal Frame 2 was one of my favorite horror games on PS2 back in the day so I´m very happy to see it get remade. Must be close to 15 years since I last played it. Very excited for it. Played the demo and it looked awesome.

Castlevania Advance Collection with the Aria of Sorrow cover was on sale so I grabbed it immediately because of the GBA Castlevania games, I only played that one so I always wanted the physical with that specific cover. It´s gorgeous. Aria of Sorrow is also a very cool Castlevania game, I played it religiously on the GBA back in the day, so I´m very excited to jump in again on Switch. I was surprised that Dracula X was also included in this collection, I thought the Advance trilogy was the only ones.

My copy of Beyond Good and Evil got pretty screwed up during delivery. Game is fine, but the case is paste.

It's not, it's called fraud. However, the longer you have someone's money, the less likely they'll be able to recover it. I'm pissed about this, but the bank won't do a chargeback after four years. My only legal recourse would be to actually sue the guy / company for my $75 back. There's talk on Reddit of building a class action suit where everyone who pre-ordered gets together and sues collectively, but the odds of that being successful and the odds of them still even having the money to pay everyone back is pretty small.

I guess I just have to chalk it up as an expensive lesson in not giving sketchy looking companies money, even if the developer of a game tells you they're legit.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like mail delivery service in certain parts of the world are in dire need of improvement, judging by a few users bad luck here.

I purchase physical to collect and digital to play...started that in the PS4 era. I have tubs full of unopened games in storage and their digital equlovent on their various platforms.

I would think physical collectors actually help the physical market by offering a pool of customers with a very high attach rate.
