What is your opinion on Pink Floyd? I didn't like them at first, I hated how synth a lot of their songs are but I have grown to appreciate it for what it is. The albums I've heard relax me, at least until a bunch of clocks start going (Time) off or the word "down" is repeated several hundred times (Dogs). I've got three of their albums; Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. Wish you were here and Animals are probably my favorites of the three but I've still yet to buy a lot of their albums. Which album should I buy next?

What era of Pink Floyd do you like more, Pre-Insane Syd Barrett or Post-Insane Syd Barrett?

Are any of the members of Pink Floyd still making albums today?

The Wall is horribly pretentious whining from Roger waters...but you should probably buy it next. Alternately, go back in time and pick up Meddle, which is quite good and has far less Roger Waters whining. If you really, really like The Wall, go buy The Final Cut, but otherwise...no.

Post-Barrett, if only 'cause there's a whole helluva lot more of it to choose from.

Not recently, though I believe the band is still active. Their last studio album was The Division Bell in 1994, with the live album Pulse being released in 1995. Since then it's been re-masters, re-issues, and, just recently, the best-of collection Echoes.

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands ever. When I first bought Dark Side of the Moon and listened to it, I was a little put off. It didn't immediatly get into it. That cd then sat on the shelf for a couple of months until I decieded to give it another chance. After that I've become one of thier biggest fans. Dark Side of the Moon is definatly in my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Wish You Were Here is also a classic. Those two albums are the best, no doubt in my mind. Animals is good but ultimatly not that great. If you are looking to get more albums, then pick up either Meddle, The Wall, or Piper At the Gates of Dawn. I'd say go for Meddle first because Echoes is one of Pink Floyd's best songs, if you have some patience.

I'm a fan of the Roger Waters era.

Roger Waters has an album and an opera coming out. David Gilmour is pimping his lastest live cd. Pink Floyd the band (Gilmour, Wright, Mason) are still under contract, I think, for one more CD.

You might want to get the Wall, as it is the last album of that 'era' of Pink Floyd.
Both post Waters CDs, Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell are both exceptional (If you want to include P.U.L.S.E., IMO one of the best concerts EVER).
A Piper at The Gates Of Dawn, A Saucerful Of Secrets, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother and Relics are all great, albeit abit more raw sounding.
Meddle has the epic 23min Echoes, worth the CD alone.
Final Cut is underrated, not a full band effort after all.
Obsurbed by Clouds is an interesting album. You can start to hear the band maturing into the band you have have heard on DSOTM and WYWH.
I left out More, I have not heard that in awhile. :/

DSOTM - The Wall

I love waters, but the man has got to get back to music. I hate his 'talking' songs.

Edit: If you buy Meddle, which i suggest you do, try the 2001 sync to Echoes. It is fantasic.

Meddle is probably my favorite album, so varied and unique, and has the greatest song ever, Echoes. It's not so much of a concept album as DSOTM is, or The Wall even, but it is intensy unique. For the really later stuff, A Momentary Lapse of Reason is incredible.

Here is what you should get, in order:
Meddle
The Wall
A Momentary Lapse of Reason

Then just stock up on the rest, all of them are unique and incredible in their own way. My current favorite is Animals, but my overall favorite is still Meddle. Ha ha, charade you are.

I used to be a huge Floyd fan--I saw them live in Miami in 1994, and it's still the best concert I've ever attended. Gilmour is more important to me than Waters, though--when I was a teenager, I'd listen to The Wall every day and feel the angst, but nowadays the only Floyd I listen to is Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

The last solo release was Richard Wright's Broken China, a concept album about his wife's battle with clinical depression. Sinead O'Connor sings the part of the wife on two tracks. That album is more depressing than just about any Floyd album, including Animals and The Final Cut--both O'Connor performances are so gut-wrenching that I rarely every listen to them.

I'd recommend getting Meddle next as well...try not to be put off by the song "Seamus". :( One of the worst Floyd creations ever. But it does have Echoes, which is one of their finest.

Floyd is my favourite band ever. So damn amazing.

no doubt. This is probally the most, how can I put it, "out there" album i've ever listened to only because of Syd, but brilliant at the same time. I would say get this album. After that, get the Wall.

Syd lives!!! :p

I've been meaning to check out Meddle and Piper at the Gates of Dawn...their later material can be too bombastic at times, I think, but it's obvious that they've been influential to many many great bands.
