I’ve visited a couple plane museums this year. Seeing something this horrific is sad. I saw planes that were probably flown during times of war. This happened at an airshow.

I gotta agree, I mean he could've pulled up or ducked under that MASSIVE FUCKING PLANE how in the hell did he not see it and plow straight into it, those wee planes are fairly manoeuvrable, probably panic set in but dayam 5 crew on that plane all dead cause of some guy fucking up

Does anybody know if at that type of airshow they have a preflight safety briefing for all the pilots ?
It looks like they didn't know the other plane was going to be there, which means they didn't tell themselves what kinda of flight profile they were going to have.

Here’s a very good video talking about what happened, and it has POV footage from both a P-51 and a P-63 for comparison. And, apparently the air chief in command instructed the P-63 to speed up and overtake the B-17, and the pilot tried to follow this instruction even though he didn’t see the B-17…

I think the P-63 didn't see the bomber because it was tilted to the left.
This is really unfortunate. Maybe the biggest flaw here, was that maybe those two airplanes shouldn't be flying at the same time.
But this is easy to say after the accident.

Side note: I really love those WWII era airplanes...
