Sorry if old...

Looks like it's the same size as the current play-yan. The only thing they changed is the logo strip at the bottom. The latest version of the software ships with this one too.

They should make one of these things work with the DS and use the touch screen interface. It definately needs to come out worldwide now it supports better video/audio.

why does it have to stick out? If its memory card size limitations, just go with mini-SD.

Nah, the standard size cards are cheaper, I like it how it is now. At E3 it really wasn't bulky at all.

Okay, uh, for starters, you need to stop calling it the Play-Yan because 1.) it doesn't make any fucking sense in English and 2.) there's no brand recognition aside from us losers who post here.

Well once they give it an official name for the US, people can use that and of course I don't think people that don't post here are going to be confused by posts they don't read (???).

Even nintendo is creating more skus now :(

This doesn't make any sense at all. You've been retardedly trolling Nintendo threads all week, but this must be the topper. By your logic everybody should all stop releasing accessories becuase it's creating SKUs. You don't even know what you're talking about, so until you do, I'd suggest holding off on the comments.

I suppose you have a good name for it

How good can the quality be on a screen without the same amount of pixels as most movies?
Well, it's not like most movies are made with standard television resolution in mind, either. Just as thee's a quality loss from a film or HD source to standard TV, there's another bigger loss down to GBA size.

I've not used Play-Yan, though toyed with viewing videos on GBA Movie Player. I thought it could actually look decent, but it used a quite shitty video format, so the compression artifacts were the big problem. Can't compare to Play-Yan, though.

Frankly, they should've just built the Play Yan into the GB Micro, made the Micro slightly larger to accomodate SD cards and the PY, and call it a day. It just makes so much sense from the consumer's standpoint.

As it is, i'm really on the fence with the combo. i'm sure the PY Micro won't add that much to the height (when viewed from the face) of the GB Micro, given that almost every shot of the GB Micro makes it almost twice as large as it is in real life. i'm looking at getting a flash MP3 player, so being able to play GBA games would be a nice bonus, as long as the issues with the PY were worked out before it ships in the US.

For those interested, there are some differences between the PY Micro and the regular Play-Yan.

http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=6457

The biggest difference is that sleep mode is now enabled (and disabled, apparently) by holding down Start instead of pressing L+R, likely because it would be too easy to accidently put the thing to sleep or wake it up with all the exposed face buttons on the Micro, instead of the protected buttons in the closed SP.

Also, the Garage Games won't work anymore. Play-Yan Micro sales, -1.

In all seriousness, though, the Play-Yan is a fantastic little device. I use it on a weekly basis to watch anime and other TV shows, and listen to music at work. If you can get one for cheaper than the asking price, by all means, don't hesitate to pick one up if it interests you.

Surely the reason that it's not built in is because a GB with SD slot would = potentially easy piracy route? Duh!

All this talk about "Why wasn't the Play-Yan built into the GB Micro?" should be reserved for GBA2 speculation, not for the current line of Game Boy Advance. The question should be why the PY isn't bundled with the Micro, and why it isn't coming out in the US yet.

As possible as it currently is with Play-Yan as an accessory. Has that happened? I'm doubting so since Nintendo continues to sell it.

GBA Micro, too small of screen, especially for watching video and 100 bucks is to much. Play yan 50 bucks, then about another 40 to 50 bucks for a memory card adding up to around 200 bucks now for the whole package. I already have an iPod and various other things that play video and music and even if I didn't an iPod Shuffle 1 gig is like 130 bucks now. I have doubts they will bring this out here. They may be waiting to see how well the Micro does first.

:lol at the "sticks out" comments. What is that, a cm? half a cm?
