Playing MGS2 Substance, a question about a certain area

SPOILERS if you've never played the game, so don't read below.

I'm currently at the part where I find Ames with the DIRECTIONAL MICROPHONE to listen in on his pacemaker. But what I want to talk about is the part just before that where I actually obtain the directional microphone. It's on level B2 and there's a rather large computer room filled with soldiers walking around. Some of them are pacing the room while others seem to be surfing for girly pictures on the computers. :lol There's also a talking parrot in the room babbling on about a few things. One of the things he mentions is to look on top of a locker. So to do as he asks I walk out of the room and search the tops of lockers. I see what he's talking about, it looks like a spinning book or is it one of those nudey magazines? Either way, it's on top of a locker and I don't see how in the world I can get it. Can I?

ALSO, back in the computer room where the mic is at, I looked under a "desk" and thought I saw a Tiki statue or something. DID I? I kept getting harassed by the guards and didn't want to risk getting caught at that moment so I ignored it, but I'm pretty sure something weired was under there. Do any of you know what's up with that?

One more thing, after I got the mic and was about to leave the camera zoomed in on a couple of points around me, like I was supposed to check them out. One was outside of this room and seemed to focus on a control panel on the north wall. I tried to mess around with it, but it seemed useless. Why would the camera divert my attention to this? Also, the two guards that seem to argue within the room after I leave, what's up with that? I tried to use the mic to listen in on their conversation but couldn't hear a single thing.
So are there any fun things to do in this room or is it just random stuff placed to screw with my head? :lol

That Tiki statue is one of the four Moai statues (from the Gradius series, aka Easter Island heads) hidden in the game. They're just there to find, no other significance that I know of.

The guards arguing, I don't think there's any more to that either. It's funny you posted this-today I'm replaying for the first time in a long time, and just went through all this stuff this afternoon. I don't know the answers to any of your other questions (I didn't stay there long). I do think I remember from before that if the guards see you laying down (like to look under a desk) they'll get suspicious and/or an alert will go off.

BTW, this story is pretty easy to understand on a replay, especially after going through MGS3.

EDIT: Didn't see your comment about the guards noticing if you laid down.

I've been drinking so I might not remember this room well.

I believe it is just a distraction/mag on top of the locker. I love how you can get in a locker disguised and if a guard sees you he'll come and tell you to stop fucking around. And when you get the d-mic, you can listen through walls and to soldier conversation. I'm not sure about the instances you're talking about, buy you will do it.

The parrot is lame.
I didn't want to see Hal cry :_(

Yes, just punch and kick the locker and the magazines will fall down.

What you saw was an easter island statue, they're all over the game but they don't really do anything or serve any purpose.

Look at it and call the Colonel and he'll talk briefly about it. Theres more to it but I don't want to spoil anything for you.

Try shooting the parrot, you'll get a surprise. There are also some posters from Ghost Babel and ZOE in the little alcove with the node.

That room seems to be packed with little details like that videogame poster is in there and regarding the two guards we can guess what they are talking about. I looked it up and found this:

When you leave the computer room, look through the window and two guards should be in conversation - one is pointing and making cupping motions on his chest and the other nods!

Friendly chat of girly pic exploits? :lol

YES! Thank you everyone for your comments.
BigBoss, I talked to the Col. about that, thank you. And I also tried shooting the parrot. :lol
