Playing music in the PS4 kinda of sucks, no?

No CD support, ok. But the MP3 player is the most generic and unispired interfade ever created. Not even any animation in the screen. Besides that, I noted that the MP3 I tested only played in the two frontal speakers of my HT, while the same music, playing in the Youtube app, uses the subwoofer. Maybe is something in the config I am missing.

Unfair to blame a video game console to be good at playing something like CDs, MP3's or music in general yes SONY made bad decisions on music I think the PS4 handles spotify well.

Use Spotify on PS4.

Though i can't use mine anymore because when i click to download the app via my PS4 Store, the download link does not appear so i can't download Spotify.

I already tried:
1) Removing my hard drive.
2) Initializing my PS4

Nothing works so i'll just wait for PS5 to hit to get Spotify again.

Topic title “kinda of” is so awkward it’s throwing me off.

Never saw the need for using a video game system for listening to music. Too many other devices do that so well.

Wins what?

The distinction as a great music player And it not sucking. The actual answer to the name of the thread title...
That’s a stretch. Winning needs a competitor. If you’re answer to the thread title was that the PS4 is good at music for your reason, then sure. But saying wins doesn’t make sense.

If I was on the team for a new console, I can’t really say I’d choose to spend resources, money, and time on setting this stuff up, versus simply letting everyone use streaming services, which most are going to want to do anyway.

That’s my issue with PS4, or was the last I checked; it needs more than Spotify.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, or physical or download music is bad. I would prefer the most functionality possible. It’s just that that’s pretty far away from the expectation these days, and when you’re trying to launch a console against impossible logistics, or only have so much employee and financial bandwidth to improve things throughout its life, something like that is going to be the first thing to go.

I personally haven’t even *thought* about buying a CD or an MP3 for the last 7 years.

Solid points. And the big companies harvest user data and can see usage rates of functions on systems. Sony probably saw little CD and MP3 usage on PS3 so they didn’t bother putting it in PS4.

the actual problem AFAIK is you cant 'quick select' a song from the spotify quick menu.

i can only play last played/playlists, not just search for whatever. means i gotta get my phone and then dick around with that. still nice though.

i remember hooking up mp3s to the 360 and watching the visualizer.
