PlayStation: Announcing the PS5 console Astro Bot Bundle

For all the people asking why it doesn't include the Limited Edition DualSense controller, this is why.
$50 less than a standard game-less bundle, with a $60 game. You're basically saving $110 there.
This will sell like hotcakes.

Hotcakes? Doubtful. At least not without a strong ad campaign to go with it. It's appropriately priced now as a potential family machine, particularly with Astro Bot. They could have thrown in Lego Horizon for kicks.

Sales are likely to be slow at least until GTA6 has a trailer and details around release this year. Q2 is always slow anyways.

You don't really need a strong ad campaign when these are the consoles that people see at stores WITH a price cut to boot.

I mean, compared to the peak years, sure, but price cuts have ALWAYS given the console a good sales boost. No reason for it to not happen this time around, especially when it includes a full $60 game.

People complaining are usually not the target neither expected to buy the console if they still don't have it.

Even if they had put the LE Astro Controller, these same people will come with other complaints like no disc version of the game, why Sony is not adding PS Plus in the bundle and so on.

And yes, it will sell like hotcakes, especially in Europe.

PS Direct was selling PS5 digital for 375 from like November and it only recently sold out. I think a more prominent price cut is needed to get people to really run to the stores to buy and the Switch 2 is going to be a hot ticket item on top of the new 9000 series cards. Lots of competition for dollars at the moment.

Sony looked at the quarter and realized they didn't really have anything and they want to scrape by with some decent sales.

I'm thinking 15 million units for the fiscal year, which would be about -17% YOY.

That would look like (FY)

Q1 - 2 million
Q2 - 3.16
Q3 - 7.92
Q4 - 1.92

They don't need to be super aggressive for Q1 and Q2, and GTA6 is going to take care of the rest. I just don't see the price being a major factor other than to keep them on track.

The price cut is exactly how Sony managed to surpass the Q3 results of the console's peak FY (ending March 31, 2024).

I'm curious about your predictions, though, particularly for Q1 and Q2. YoY drops in the 18-20% range seem a bit too much, when time-aligned in the PS4 era these were in the 3-7% range. I'm expecting myself similar results to the FY ending March 31, 2024 with the price cut and GTAVI taking care of the last two quarters.
