They still need to make an USB rubber vagina, but this is a good start:

High-Speed Love Connection

If the excitement over Internet-enabled adult gadgets at the recent Erotica Los Angeles trade show is any indication of what's to come, virtual sex may have at last become reality.

One of the most popular demonstrations at the three-day porn industry event featured a collaboration of sorts between yet-to-be-launched dating and virtual sex hookup service High Joy and sex-toy maker Doc Johnson, the company that produces branded gadgets for popular adult film company Vivid Entertainment.

Using a two-way video, audio and text chat interface, expo attendees were invited to control Doc Johnson-branded iVibe pleasure devices being put to use by models at an undisclosed location, in various states of undress.

"The device control works both ways -- the person on each end controls the speed and rhythm of the device the other is using," explained High Joy President Amir Vatan, as one attendee cranked his remote partner's iVibe to warp-speed intensity.

About damn time.

Edit: But, uh...it seems that they're intending these devices to be used through porn sites. What a waste! Someone needs to get started on an open-source protocol for communication with these and integrate it into instant-messaging services.

Edit 2: Okay, so that "High Joy" service will allow regular people to meet and, uh, interact. My proposal still stands.

The only thing that seems new about this is that there's a dedicated service built around ultimately pleasuring your partner(s) with these devices. Other than that, it's old -- these things have been around for a few years now. Still kinda interesting to see how technodildonics (yes, it's a word) has advanced over the years.

i read a lot about VR back in the nineties. When you start talking about full-body suits, teledildonics (misspelled earlier due to teh martinis) is one natural progression. Technology and sex (the natural kind) have been two of my interests for some time, so it makes sense for me. i still think we're a long ways off from technology like in scenes from the Lawnmower Man, but i think it's a matter of time before relevant technologies become available, and someone pieces them together.
